Tradedx is a database service comprising detailed data on

India's foreign trade and World Trade. It facilitates easy
downloads of data in simple text format.

Tradedx ensures that the latest data gets updated quickly

in the service. This will enable you to access the most
recent data with minimum me lag a er its ocial
release.

Tradedx includes historical data on India's foreign trade

and World Trade. India's trade data based on PC and ITC
classica on is available for the past 25 years whereas
World trade data is available for 21 years. This long- me
series is ideal for researchers who may like to subject the
data to further analysis or in research studies.
DGCI&S revises its ITC classica on every ve years. PC
classica on also gets revised but not as regularly as ITC.
We map the old classica on to the new classica on to
create me-series data. Thus, a comparable me-series
for ITC and PC going back as far as 1991 is available to
you.

Tradedx
Tradedx comprises me-series data on India's foreign
trade and World Trade.
India's foreign trade data is based on two types of
commodity classica ons, Principal Commodi es (PC)
dx and Indian Trade Classica on (ITC). Data based on both
types of commodity classica ons are compiled and
released by Directorate General of Commercial
Intelligence & Sta s cs (DGCI&S), Kolkata. Data based on
PC classica on is released with a lag of one month. ITC
data is released with a lag of two to three months.
PC classica on includes major items that are traded by
India. It includes around 190 commodi es each for
exports and imports. The individual items have been
grouped into sub-groups and groups by CMIE for be er
understanding of India's foreign trade.
ITC-based classica on captures India's foreign trade data
at a granular level. It is based on the Harmonised
Commodity Descrip on and Coding System (HS) of
classica on developed by World Customs Organisa on
(WCO). ITC comprises 2-4-6-8 digit coding structure of
commodi es. The classica on includes more than
20,000 commodi es.
In the two types of classica ons, export/import data is
captured for 261 countries by DGCI&S. These countries
also are grouped into regions. Data based on PC and ITC
classica ons are available for monthly, cumula ve and
annual frequency for value and for quan ty (wherever
available) in Indian Rupees and in US dollars.
World Trade data is based on the HS system. It consists of
2-4-6 digit-based coding structure. World Trade data is
available for annual frequency from 1995 onwards.

There are six steps to extract data from the Tradedx database:
1. Select a source to extract data from the three sets of classica on - Principal
Commodi es (PC) or Indian Trade Classica on (ITC) or World Trade (WT).

2. Select the country/countries for which data for exports or imports is being sought.

3. Select the country/countries of des na on for exports or source country/countries for

imports.

4. Select the commodity/commodi es for which the data needs to be extracted.

5. Select output preferences such as frequency, currency, period for which data is
required, date format and extra descrip on of data being extracted.

6. Execute the extrac on and save specica ons used for the data extrac on for possible
future use.
