Editors Note...
September is the month of new
beginnings. In my eyes, it is a fresh
start. You start a new school year,
you have new classes and
professors, and maybe you even
move into a new home on
campus. I know sometimes
starting many new things at once
can be tough, but once you are in a
repetitive schedule, you always
seem to adjust to change.
I am very happy to serve as this
year's Publications Editor for
PRSSA. I got involved in PRSSA by
writing every month for PRomo last
year, and I think you should all too!
Writing for our newsletter is a
great opportunity to strengthen
your writing skills, see your work
published, and also it is a great
thing to put down on your resume!

Presidents Piece

Hi everyone,
Welcome back! I hope everybodys year is off to a great
start! My name is Colleen Scott, and I am this years president
for Rowans chapter of Public Relations Student Society of
America (PRSSA). I feel lucky to work alongside an e-board of
15 hardworking and dedicated individuals. We are so excited
for this year and what is in store for our chapter.
How can you join in on the fun? Good question come to
PRSSA and PRaction meetings every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
in the Chamberlain Student Center. Each week, the meetings
will alternate from PRSSA to PRaction. Our PRSSA meetings
will consist of speaker panels featuring PR professionals from
different sectors of PR, strengthening our skills through
professional development workshops, and more! PRaction is
Rowans own, student PR firm. Getting involved with PRaction
is a great way to gain some hands-on experience working
with real clients!
I encourage everyone to attend at least one PRSSA or
PRaction meeting. I hope everyone is able to find his/her
niche in our organization. I truly believe everyone can find a
place and shine, and I am looking forward to seeing that
happen throughout the year. k

A Summer of PR
By Alexander Belli, dual major in Advertising and PR
The end of my first year at
Rowan University is when I
landed my first internship. I
would be a Multimedia
Content Contributor Intern
for Rowans Division of
Student Affairs. The work was
heavy in writing,
photography, networking,
and several other areas of
multimedia content. I felt
nervous because I had only
spent a year studying Public
Relations and wasnt sure if I
would be prepared enough
for the job. I realized when I
started, however, that I had
everything I needed and the
internship provided the rest.
The classes Ive taken
have taught me a lot about
the industry, but there are
things that cant be fully
understood without having
real-life experiences. One
of those things involves
being able to network
properly and creating good
relationships among the
departments of the company
you work for. Part of what I
do at my internship involves
doing all those tasks I
mentioned above for other
departments at Rowan. An
example happened recently
when I worked with the
International Admissions
Office to photograph some of
their students from overseas.
My job was made much

Lessons Learned

This summer I had the
opportunity to intern for
Roche Diagnostics, a
pharmaceutical company in
Indianapolis. I became aware
of the internship through an
inside connection and
decided to apply.
I gained corporate
experience while working in
Human Resources under the
Talent Acquisition
Department. I had the
opportunity to actively
participate in interviews for
full-time positions, give my
input in debriefing sessions,
improve the university
recruiting process for Roche
and work closely with a
Marketing Manager to
complete an extra project.
Even though I didnt intern
in a PR or communications
field, I learned more than I
could imagine this summer. I
applied what I studied in my
PR and advertising classes to
my HR projects. I learned how
easy it is to land a job in a

students hands-on public
relations experience. PRaction
helps clients meet their goals
different area than you
originally planned and how
important it is to take positions
just to get your foot in the
door.
For students trying to seek
an internship in the
future, networking is key.
Network to land the internship,
but also network during your
internship. I went out of my
way to meet with higher ups in
the company and meet
employees who were in PR and
marketing. You would be
surprised as to how many
people have connections all
over the country. I was
interning over 600 miles away
and still managed to make
connections in New York and
Philly. The most important
piece of advice to remember
after your internship- stay in
touch with the people you
meet! You never know when
you will need assistance from
them in the future and staying
connected shows you care and
it will go a long way! k

Association (AWA), a private,
nonprofit organization, operates
the oldest and largest low-cost
spay/neuter clinic, adoption
center and no-kill animal shelter
in South Jersey. Through a
variety of innovative programs
including adoptions, veterinary
services, pet therapy,
trap-neuter-return and humane
education, we strive to ensure
that animal companionship is
accessible to all.
Millville Army Air Field
Museum: The Millville Army
Air Field Museum (MAAFM)
preserves the history of the
Millville Army Air Field, in
Millville, NJ, dedicated by the
U.S. War Department in 1941 as
Americas First Defense
Airport. Located in the original
base headquarters building, the
MAAFM displays large
collections of WWII flying
artifacts of national interest.
The Good Network: The
Good Network is a blog and
podcast that was launched this
past year by friends Tom
Cristino, Mike DiFrancesco, and
