Student Responsibilities
Requirements F2F Example: It is expected that students attend class as scheduled and be an active
for participant in learning. Students are expected to carefully review the course syllabus

discussion board forum located in the each course. Personal issues such as grades,
anticipated absences, illness, and family emergencies can be sent to the facultys
email address. Students may also contact faculty via office phone. All students
contacting faculty via office phone must leave a reliable phone number, day, and time
to return the call. If a student has left a message and their call or email has not been
returned within 72 hours, they should contact the College of Nursing at 804-627-5300.
If a faculty member is going to be out of town or unavailable for a period of time, they
will post an announcement note to that effect on the Blackboard course site as well as
an alternate resource for course concerns.
Students will be provided a Bon Secours College of Nursing (BSMCON) email account.
All communication between students and faculty will be through the BSMCON email
account. Work or personal email addresses will not be acceptable forms of
communication. It is expected students will check their college email on a regular
basis. Please note faculty use Eastern Standard Time (EST) or Eastern Daylight Time
(EDT) as appropriate in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Technical Include for Face to face: Students are required to have regular, reliable access to a

may not have the processing power to work with our current version of Blackboard and
its components. The primary method of communication to students is the web-based
Blackboard system (See Student Catalog) and the .edu email assigned to students upon
admission to the program.

Technology Support section of the College Resources course tab in Blackboard for
detailed information on required hardware and software. All students must have a
computer with high speed internet access, email access, up-to-date programs, and
current computer security that will support the online education environment.
Students will have access to the Blackboard course site which allows students and
faculty to exchange attached documents electronically. Students are expected to be
familiar with computer, email systems, electronic attachments, and other vital
computer functions vital to academic and professional success.

Secours website and the Technology Support section of the College Resources course
tab in Blackboard for detailed information on required hardware and software. Students
will have access to the Blackboard course site which allows students and faculty to
exchange attached documents electronically. Students are expected to be familiar with
computer, email systems, electronic attachments, and other vital computer functions
essential to academic and professional success.

Out of Course The student can expect approximately 2 hours per week of out of course work (such

Submission of F2F Statement: Students are expected to submit all written assignments via the
Assignments Blackboard system unless instructed otherwise by faculty. All course assignment due
dates are communicated by the faculty. For each day an assignment is received late
without prior notification and approval, ten points per day will be deducted. Faculty
will regularly communicate with students via email and through Blackboard to convey
information about classes, assignments, and other course-related issues. Students
may utilize the computer lab at the college. The computer lab is open to students
during regular business hours of the college.
Online: Students are expected to turn in assignments on time. Discussion board
original posts are due by 11:59pm on Thursday of each week as noted in the course
calendar and peer responses are due on Sunday (11:59 PM) of the same week. Other
graded assignments are due by 11:59pm on Sunday of each week as noted in the
course calendar and modules. Should a student have difficulty or have questions when
completing an assignment, they should contact the faculty before the assignment is
due. All course assignment deadlines are on EST or EDT as appropriate in Virginia. For
each day an assignment is received late without prior notification and approval, ten
points per day will be deducted. After posting an assignment, go back and verify the
correct document was posted. Students experiencing technical issues with
Blackboard are expected to contact the Blackboard help desk which is available 24/7
for student. There is no excuse for late assignments or failure to attach documents.
All students are expected to have several plans in place in case of technical issues to
ensure success in the online program.

Assignments should be formatted in APA VI style and presented professionally, written


in a scholarly tone, and include an appropriate cover page, reference list, and
appendices as needed. Students should review the grading rubrics for further details,
refer to the APA VI manual, and the writing center located in the College Resources
tab in all Blackboard courses.

It is expected that all assignments will meet the standard for undergraduate level
work. Rubrics for grading are provided for course assignments. Students should use
them to ensure they have addressed all required components for an assignment. A
grading summary will be returned with each assignment that will show how work was
judged. If a student has questions or comments about a grade, they should contact
the faculty.
Assessments, For classes with quizzes and examinations: (this section was accidently left out of the

Examinations
Scheduled quizzes, assessments, and examinations contributing to a theory grade may
not be taken late unless prior discussion has occurred with the course faculty member.
Faculty reserve the right to provide an alternative examination. A student who arrives
late to a quiz, assessment, or exam will not be given additional time. Unscheduled
quizzes and assessments cannot be made up regardless of prior notification of absence.
Students are accountable for following the instructions given for each assessment, quiz,
and examination.

**Clinical courses only include the following (Nur3111, 3112, 3114, 4111, 4115,
4143)**Students must attain a weighted, in-class closed book examination average of
80% or higher in order to successfully pass the course. Scores for other course activities
will contribute to the course grade when a weighted average of 80% or higher has been
achieved. When a weighted examination average is less than 80%, this average will
constitute the course grade and unsuccessful completion of the course. Final grades are
not rounded all percentages are truncated. (Example: if a student receives an average
of 79.6 on the 90% of the course dedicated to examination, the final grade will be a 79%
- course failure.) See AP Grading System policy

Group exam reviews will be scheduled outside of class time by course faculty following
the exam. Within 2 business days of the group exam review, students may submit
questions or concerns about the exam in writing utilizing required or recommended
texts or instructional materials. Students may review assessments or exams with faculty
for up to two weeks after the group review, except for the final which may be reviewed
within five working days.
Course Specific Example

Academic Assistance and Tutoring
In addition to support from course faculty, all students may take advantage of the
Office of Student Success. The mission of the Office of Student Success is to provide
academic support, connect students to resources, help students meet their
educational goals, and encourage academic achievement. Student Success offers
support in many areas including: time management, priority and goal setting,
effective study and test taking strategies, peer tutoring, and career counseling.
Communication with the Office of Student Success is encouraged at the first
indication of need. Students who receive support early are the most successful.
Please do not hesitate to contact the office at any time.

Free peer tutoring is available for most pre-licensure nursing courses. Tutoring is
available during posted hours, either by appointment or drop-in. Students with
appointments receive first priority.

Students are expected to become familiar with and use the resources available to
them through the College Resources tab in each Blackboard course. This tab
provides information on library resources, financial aid, and other topics to support
the online student.

You may wish to keep a copy of the course syllabus for your records, as you may need it for
future reference. A copy will not be available from the school in the future. If you wish to
make a copy, please do so before the end of the course.
