1 General

1.1 Introduction
ReadthisOwner'sManualbeforeusingtheOpti2measure-
mentdeviceandstartingwork.TheOwner'sManualfamili-
arises the reader with the features and operation of the
measurementdeviceintendedforharvesteruse.Reading
andunderstandingtheinstructionsimprovestheutilisation
efficiencyofthesystemandthereforeincreasesworkpro-
ductivity.

AlsoreadtheOwner'sManualsfortheharvesterheadand
basemachine.

ThisOwner'sManualappliestoharvesterheadmodelsX50,
H60e,H73e,H6,H7,H7eucaandH8.Ifnospecificharvester
headmodelisindicatedintheheadingofaninstruction,the
instructionisapplicabletoallharvesterheads.

1.2 GeneraldescriptionoftheOpti2system
TheOpti2 isacontrolandmeasurementsystemthathas
beendesignedforfellingandcuttingtrees,recordingoutput
statistics,andgivingthedriverinformationabouttheworkflow
andthefunctionalityofthesystemitself.

The Opti2 system controls the harvester head, tilt, feed


rollers,delimbingknivesandsawduringthework.

Themeasurementdevicecanbeinstalled,forexample,in
anexcavator.

TheOpti2 iscomprisedoffourseparatemodules:
seatmodule,
harvesterheadmodule,
busdistributionmodule(HUB),
anddisplaymodule,
aswellasaCANbusandthecontrols:controlwheel,control
buttonsandpreselectionbuttons.

ThemodulesareconnectedtoeachotherviatheCANbus.

1.3.1 Seatmodule

The control wheel, control and preselection buttons are


connectedtotheseatmodule.Theseatmoduleidentifies
thebuttonspushedandtherotatorhandlecontrol,aswell
assendsinformationonbuttonstotheCANbus.

1.3.2 Harvesterheadmodule

Thesensorsandactuatorsoftheharvesterheadarecon-
nectedtotheharvesterheadmodule.Themodulecontrols
the harvester head and reads the harvester head inputs
(sensors).

1.3.3 Busdistributionmodule

The pumps are connected to the bus distribution module


(HUB)and,furthermore,themodulemonitorsthecurrents
andtheCANbus.

1.3.4 Displaymodule

The display module compiles statistics and controls the


handling of logs. With the display module, the user can
monitorthesystemstatusandcondition,andmakesystem
adjustments.Thedisplaymodulecollectsdatainthelogfile
regarding the system status and operation. All harvesting
datacollectedbythedisplaymodulecanbetransferredto
thesystemprinter,berecordedtoafileinthedisplayfile
system,orbetransferredasdatatoamemorystickviathe
USBinterface.Thedefaultdisplayfilesystemdoesnotcre-
atefiles.

ThedisplaymodulecontrolsthestatusoftheCANbusand,
ifoneofthemodulesismissing,thedisplayinformstheuser,
andthesystemoperationislimited.

The display module is controlled mainly with the control


wheelanditsbuttons.Thedisplaymodule's5buttonsare
alsousedandthedefaultfunctionsofthedisplaymodule
buttonsarethesameinallwindows.Ifthefunctionofthe
display module buttons differ in some window, the button
hasaniconatthebottomofthewindow.Allwindowshave
aninfowindow,whichhasatextdescriptionofthewindow
functionandoperations.Theinfowindowisactivatedusing
displaymodulebutton5.

The button is used to confirm func-
tions.Forexample,withthecursoron

tion is activated depending on the
buttontype.
Cancelbutton Redbuttononthecontrolwheel.
Thebuttonisusedtocancelafunction
inprogress.Forexample,theadjust-
mentisnotapprovedwiththecontrol
button, but the old value remains in
effect.
The cursor is moved between the
MainMenuanddisplaybuttonwiththe
Cancelbutton.
Activation Whenadjustingvalues,thecontrolis
activated by pressing the Confirm
button, in which case a shadow
appearsaroundthecontrolbutton.

1.5 Measurementmethod,Continuous
measurementofvolume,i.e.,cubing
The harvesting measuring method with this equipment is
basedoncontinuousvolumemeasurement.Thevolume
ofthemeasurementbatchismeasuredandcalculatedby
shortlogsandbymeansofthecylinderortruncatedcone
formula.Inpractice,thicknessreadingsarerecordedinthe
framevectoratone-centimetre(1cm)intervalswhenfeeding
atree.TheOpti2screenmodule'smemorycontainsatable,
alwaysprovidingthevolumeofaone-centimetre-longtrunk
corresponding to a specific thickness with an accuracy of
one-tenth of a millilitre. The final result is rounded to the
nearestdecilitre.

Thebaseofthefirstlogafterfellingsawingiscalculatedby
formingatruncatedcone.

Whensawingusingthetoppingsaw,theunknownlogsection
iscalculatedonthebasisoftheprognosispreparedusing
thelog'srealisednarrowing.

For securing a reliable volume measure, the length and


thicknessmeasuresmustbecalibratedbeforestartingthe
measurement.

Ifthediameterisnotinuse,themeasuringdevicewillnot
calculatethevolume.Nevertheless,theharvesterheadmust
be opened and closed before starting the work. This way
thepreselectionswillfunctionbasedonlengthalone.

2 Function,harvesterhead

2.1 General
Thesoftwareofthemeasurementdeviceassumesthattrees
arefelledinthefollowingmanner:

AfterturningtheinstrumentOn,theharvesterheadmust
be first set to the Open and Close position and the
movementpathmustbecorrectwithrespecttoitsrange
(sufficient number of pulses), before the diameter
readingappearsonthescreen(ifthediameterisused).

ifthediameterisnotused.Evenifthediameterisnot
inuse,theharvesterheadmustbeopenedandclosed
beforestartingthework.Ifthediameterisnotinuse,
thepreselectionswillfunctiononlengthalone.
Theharvesterheadistobeopenedandliftedtoaver-
ticalposition,sothatthetreetobefelledcanbecaught.
Performfellingsawing.
The feeding starts with preselection, and also with
continuousfeedfromcutsawing.Usingthemanualfeed
duringtheautomaticfeedwillcanceltheautomaticfeed.
The automatic feed can be restarted at any time by
pressingthepreselectionbutton.
Asthefeedisstoppedatthecorrectdimension,sawing
iscarriedout(bypressingthebutton)andiftheauto-
maticfeedisnotselected,anewpreselectionisselec-
ted.Whencontinuousfeedisselected,buttheminimum
diameterconditionisnotfulfilled,thefeedwillnotstart
automatically.
The sawing compiles statistics for the trunk's active
preselection.Whenatrunkcounterisused,thetrunk
isaddedtothepreselectionactiveduringthefirstsaw-
ing.Thelengthreadingisresetinsawing.

2.2 Feeding
Themeasurementdeviceselectsthefeedspeedbetween
fast, medium and slow feed, based on the remaining dis-
tance.Fastspeedisusedwhenfarawayfromthedimension.
Slowspeedisusedwhenclosetothedimension.Thespeed
selection is affected by the braking distance + stopping
advance.Whenthedistancetothedimensionexceedsthe
brakingdistance+stoppingadvance,fastfeedisselected.
Thestoppingadvanceisthedistancewhichthetrunkmoves
after stopping the control of the feed valves. The braking
distance defines how far before the target dimension the
feedischangedtoslowspeed.

2.3 Preselection
The tree species and desired preselection table row are
selectedwiththepreselectionbutton.

Preselectionsarepre-programmeddataregardingthetype
oflogsdesired.Thepreselectioncanalreadybeselected
beforecarryingoutthefelling.

Preselectionconsistsofsevendifferentpiecesofinformation:

Treespecies;thebotanicalnameofthetreeinquestion.
Timber assortment; the end use of the log (e.g., log,
pulporrot).
Length;thedesiredlengthofthelogstobecut.
Sawingwindow;thealloweddeviationfromthedesired
length.Aseparateparameterfortheunder-andover-
shootofthedesireddimension.
Minimum tree top; the diameter in millimetres below
whichthetreetopdiameterofthedesiredlogmustnot
fall.
Colourmarking.
Debarking(preselectionactivatesthedebarkingmode,
ifselected).
Freecutting.

WhenpressingPreselectionaftersawing,theharvesterhead
activates the preselection of the trunk feed to inform the
dimension,takingintoconsiderationthetoleranceandtree
topdiameter.Ifthediameterfallsbelowthetreetopdimen-
sion,thetrunkfeedisstoppedforthispreselection.Theuser
mustselectanewpreselectionorfeedmanuallyusingthe
Feedforwardbutton.

The log cut in sawing is statistically compiled during the


sawingfortheactivepreselection.Therunningmetersand
number of logs cut for each preselection are counted
together.Thecubicmetersarecountedifthediameterisin
use,andthenumberoftrunksisalwayscounted.Thenum-
beroftrunksisalwaysaddedtothepreselection,forwhich
thefirstlogismadefromthetrunk.

3.3 Safetylock
Thepurposeofthesafetylockistodisabletheharvester
headcontrolsinconnectionwiththesystembooting,aswell
aswhenthedriverisnotinthecabin.Thesafetylocksymbol
informingthedriveraboutthisisshownaslockedinthemain
menuofthedisplay,andaccesstotheHandlingscreenhas
been blocked. Therefore, all harvester head controls are
alsoblocked.

4 Harvesterheadfunctions
Theopeningmovementoftheactuatorisalwaysdominant.
That is, if one tries to simultaneously close and open the
sameactuator,theopencontroldominatesandtheactuator
issteeredopen.Thisappliestoallharvesterheadfunctions.

4.1 Lefthandhandle

4.1.1 Functionchange,Shift1andShift2

4.1.2 Vibrate

The Vibrate button activates the auxiliary vibration of the


frontandreardelimbingknives.Withtheauxiliaryvibration,
the vibration of both the front and rear delimbing knives

vibration operates for as long as the button is pressed
regardlessofwhetherthe"automaticvibration"isinuseor
not.Whenpressingthevibrationbuttonbeforethefeed,the

TheShift1+Vibrate buttonsactivatethe"automaticvibration"
ofthefrontandreardelimbingknives.Thevibrationfunctions
thatareactivewilloperate.Theautomaticvibrationsymbol
ofthefrontandreardelimbingknivesappearsonthescreen.

TheShift2+Vibrate buttonsopenawindowwhereitispos-
sibletoselectwhichvibrationfunctionsareactivewhenthe
automaticvibrationisinuse.

4.1.3 Rollersopen

WhenpressingtheRollersopenbuttonandthefeedisturned
on,theprogram'sdefaultvalueisthatonlythekniveswill
open.However,thedefaultvaluecanbechangedsothat
therollerswillalsoopenandthefeedwillbestopped.

Thefeedrollersarealsosteeredfullyopenwhenthehar-
vesterheadissteeredfullyopen.

Whenfelling,theRollersopen buttonfullyopensthefeed
rollers.Thefeedrollersareopenedforatleastthetimeset
withtheparameters,orforaslongasthebuttonispressed.

Thecommissioningtime,whichlastsfromthefullyclosed
position of the feed rollers to the fully open position, is
adjustedasaminimumcontroltimeparameter.

Pressing the Rollers open button briefly in sawing fully


opensthefeedrollers,afterwhichtheycloseautomatically.
PressingtheRollersopen buttonforalongtimeincutting
modefullyopensthefeedrollersandtheyremainopenuntil
the user closes them with, e.g., the Head close button or
Shift1+Headclosebutton.

TheShift1+Rollersopen buttonsopenthefeedrollersfor
aslongasthecontrolbuttonispressed.

4.1.4 Knivestoggle

Thefrontandreardelimbingkniveswillremainopenwhen
pressingtheKnivestoggle button.Thekniveswillbeclosed
whenthebuttonispressedtwice.Inotherwords,thedirec-
tionoftheknifemovementwillbechangedwheneverthe
Togglebuttonispressed(apartfromthefeed).

When the Toggle button is held down when feeding, the


kniveswillopenuntilthebuttonisreleased.

TheShift1+Knivestoggle buttonsopen/closeboththefront
and rear delimbing knives to their middle positions. The
kniveswillcloseforaslongasthecontrolbuttonispressed.

4.1.5 Saw

TheSaw buttonsawswiththesawinuse.Forexample,if
thetopsawisinuse,pressingtheSaw buttonactivatesthe
topsaw.Inothercases,sawingiscarriedoutwiththeregular
saw.

PressingtheShift1+Saw buttonwiththeharvesterheadin
the horizontal position starts the change sequence of the
saw chain for the active saw, during which the display
instructsthedriverofactionstobetaken.

TheclearingfunctionisactivatedusingtheHeadopen+Saw
buttonwiththeharvesterheadinaverticalposition.

TheHeadclose+Saw buttonsactivateforcedsawing.The
sawbladestaysoutforaslongastheSaw buttonispressed.

4.1.6 Frontknivesopen

Thefrontdelimbingknivesarealsosteeredfullyopenorto
intermediatepositionswhentheharvesterheadissteered
fullyopenortointermediatepositions.

If the saw or top saw stays out simultaneously when the


"frontdelimbingknivesopen"(or"knivesopen")controlis
activated,thesawisfirsttakentothesawboxand,when
the "saw home" data is active (saw in the saw box), the
kniveswillbeopened.

WhentheHeadopenbuttonispressedcontinuouslyfora
longtimeandthefeedrollersareopen,theharvesterhead
willautomaticallyrisetoaverticalposition.(Onlywhenthis
functionisallowedintheparameterslocatedinthesettings)
WhentheHeadopenbuttonispressedduringthefeed,only
thefrontandreardelimbingkniveswillopenforaslongas
thebuttonispressed.IfthefeedisactivewhentheHead
openbuttonisreleased,theharvesterheadwillautomatically
close.

4.2.2 Headclose

The Head close button fully closes the feed rollers, front
andreardelimbingknives.

WhentheHeadclosebuttonispressed,thereareadjustable
delays(parameters)withthecontrolsofthefeedrollersand
reardelimbingknives.Thatis,firstthefrontdelimbingknives
areclosedand,followingthesetdelay,thefeedrollersand
rear delimbing knives. For example, when pressing the
Knivesclosebutton,therewillbenodelayandtheknives
willcloseimmediately.

TheHeadclosecontrolstaysonwhenthebuttonisreleased.

The Shift1+Headclose buttonclosesthefeedrollers,front


andreardelimbingknivestointermediatepositions;inother
wordstheywillremainclosedforaslongasthebuttonis
pressed.

4.2.3 Resetlength

TheResetlength buttonresetsitscurrentlengthreading.
Pressingthebuttonforalongtimedeletestheoutputdata
ofthelastcutlog.

TheShift1+Resetlength buttons(=Newstem)switchthe
Opti2 systemintoapost-fellingsawingstate,eventhough
nofellingsawingwasactuallydone.Thiscanbeused,for
example,ifoneneedstostartcuttingatrunkthathasalready
fallenorhasbeenfelledearlier.

Shift2+Reset length buttons. If the function has been


allowedusingaparameter,thetargetlengthoftheactive
preselectionissetasthelengthmeasurement.Ifthelength
measurement clearly shows incorrect lengths, the length

measurement can be "forced" to the active preset target


length, which will lead to more accurate statistics. If no
preselectionhasbeenactivated,thesystemwillsimultan-
eously activate the default preselection and set its target
lengthasthelengthmeasurement.

Inorderforthepreviousfunctiontowork,delimbingparamet-
ers must be active. In addition, the DB section must be
selectedinthespecificpreselection.Thisfunctionismainly
usedindelimbingharvesterheads.

4.2.4 Tilttoggle

TheTilttoggle buttonliftstheharvesterheadtotheupright
position/lowerstheharvesterheadtoahorizontalposition.

4.2.5 Rotator/bucketselector

The Rotator/bucket selector button activates the rotator


controlwhenthebucketcontrolisinuse.Pressingthebutton
whentherotatorcontrolisinuseactivatesthebucketcontrol.

4.2.6 Topsaw

TheTopsaw buttonchangesthetopsawasthesawtobe
used.Theselectioniscancelledbypressingthebuttonfor
the second time. The selection is automatically cancelled
when the harvester head is opened and the top saw has
sawed.(Thetopsawfunctionrequiresthattheuseofthe
topsawisallowedusingaparameter.)

TheShift1+Topsaw buttonsopenthesafetylock.

4.2.7 Slowfeedforward

WhilepressingtheFeedforward button,trunksarefedat
highspeedforward.

The trunk feed speed is limited to a maximum average


speed, if the trunk is taken in the harvester head during
fellingsawing.

Thetrunkfeedforwardispreventedwhenthesawortop
sawisoutofthesawbox.

button with the debarking mode active (parameter) or
debarkingallowedinthepreselection.Inbuttenddebarking,
theharvesterheadmustbeinthecuttingmode.

WhenpressingtheButtendbutton,thetrunkisfedbackward
untilthetargetlengthisachievedorisundercut.

ButtenddebarkingcanbeabortedwiththeFeedforward
andbackwardbuttons,aswellasbypressingtheButtend
buttonforthesecondtime.

Buttenddelimbing:Aftercutting,presstheButtend button
before the first preselection. After the first preselection,
automaticbuttenddelimbingiscarriedout.

Inbuttenddelimbing,thepartofthebuttendwhichremains
outsidethedelimbingknivesinconnectionwithcuttingthe
trunkistobedelimbed.Inbuttenddelimbing,thetrunkis

parameter,afterwhichtheautomaticcut-to-lengthisactiv-
ated.

Buttenddelimbingisavailablewhentheautomaticfeedor

cut-to-length is aborted. If it is desired to cancel butt

TheShift1+Buttend functionisusedtolocatethetrunkbutt
end,thatis,thezeropointofthelength,whenthelength
measurement is missing. The function requires that the
harvesterheadincludesabuttendidentificationsensor.The
Buttendfunctionfeedsthetrunkataveragespeed.

Ifthebuttendidentificationsensorisactiveatstartupofthe
Buttendfunction,thetrunkisfedbackwarduntiltheidenti-
ficationsensorchangesmode,inwhichcasethetrunkfeed
directionchangestoforwardandthespeedtoslow.When
theidentificationsensorchangesmodeagain,thetrunkfeed
isstopped.

Ifthebuttendidentificationsensorisnotactiveatstartupof
the Butt end function, the trunk is fed forward at average
speed,untiltheidentificationsensorchangesmodeandthe
trunkfeedisstopped.

Everytimethebuttendidentificationsensorchangesmode,
thelengthdisplayshowsthedistancefromthesensortothe
saw.

The butt end search function is active regardless of the


selectedfeedmode.

Thebuttendsearchfunctioncanbeabortedinthemiddle
ofthebuttendsearchbypressingthe"feedforward"or"feed
backward"buttonorbystartingtheautomaticcut-to-length.
TheButtendsearchfunctionisautomaticallyabortedwhen
