As I venture my way in law school, theres this one conceptual statement by our professors
that no matter how different in form and construction, keeps on repeating itself together with the daily
dose of readings, recitations and the severe tremors during recitation- law professors uttering the
statements This is just a classroom set-up, and there is a different world for you out there. It would
also come into form like The law books may teach you the theoretical foundations of law, but it would
never guide you on the real world out there. As a typical law student who would eagerly anticipate to
every segue moments of our professors while simultaneously praying that the whole period would be
spent on their story-telling experiences on the real world, I pay no heed to such stories; thinking that it
would be better to experience them myself than create a vivid reality out of the unverified stories of other
people and maybe I was anxious at those times to read the cases left untouched that would have to be
recited upon.

I should have listened to those story-telling moments more carefully.

During my first week in Public Attorneys Office- Manila (PAO-Manila for brevity), I was tasked
to make Position Papers, Petition for Review to the DOJ and Complaint-Affidavit. At this point I was
trying to immerse myself on making these pleadings and papers that, even though I heard and
encountered before while reading the codals and cases, never really had any ounce of idea on how to
make them. I am very thankful to my bosses unwavering understanding and guidance for attentively
asking all of my inquiries, no matter how good or dense they were; and providing me with various
formats to use as a guide and in giving me constructive criticisms to improve my work. At that point in
time, working in PAO-Manila gave me this idea that hard work and study of the law does not cease in the
four bounds of our university; it extends even in the depths of our lifetime and everyday dealings with the
numerous clients seeking for legal advice and various modes of remedy in evading or pressuring their
respective adversaries.

The second and third week would still involve preparation and making of Position Papers,
Complaint-Affidavits, Comment, Motion for Reconsideration, and Research works for Jurisprudential
rulings in favor with certain number of cases being handled by our Division. Thankfully, I was able to
slowly adapt on how these papers and pleadings were made. During those weeks also, we were able to
gather some insights from the PAO-Manila lawyers on how the Rules and Procedures we learned from
law school would come into play. During those weeks also, I was able to observe court hearings primarily
involving violations of Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and violation of Municipal Ordinances.

During those weeks, I was able to experience and see for myself the actual happening in the legal
arena and for that I am very thankful to PAO-Manila for having a relentless pursuit in the name of justice
and fair play, and for giving me an opportunity and a real-time experience to witness on how these core
values come into play.

And for that, I am of full certainty that the lawyers of PAO-Manila practice what they preach; that is,
upholding the rule of law and the justice of truth, honesty and fair play.
