A. A FOOTBALL CAMP
A group of boys from various local schools were attending a football camp. They had been told
by the head coach that he had set down a number of rules for their stay and that all the boys
must abide by these rules. You are here to play football, not to have a holiday. We have had
some very good players here in the past, and I hope that at least some of you will measure up to
them. Before the first training session, the older boys tended to look down on the younger one,
they thought that they were less experienced players. They felt very superior however; when
training began it was one of the younger boys, Derek, whom the coach singled out for praise.
Derek was a skilful striker and the most boastful older boy, Ally, let through a goal kicked by him.
The coach remarked on the fact that Derek could not only score goals, but that he could also fend
off attacks by the opposing team very well. He was a good all-round player.
