A. PRELIMINARY PERIOD

1 – LOCKING THE TASKBAR


If you want to lock the taskbar in place so that it can’t be dragged or moved follow these
steps:
1. Right-click a blank space on the taskbar.
2. Click Lock the Taskbar.

2 – AUTO HIDE THE TASKBAR


In Auto Hide mode, you cannot see your task bar until you point your mouse pointer to
its location.
1. Right-click a blank space on the taskbar.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click to check Auto-hide the Taskbar.
4. Click Ok Button.

3 – SHOWING QUICK LAUNCH


1. Right-click a blank space on the taskbar.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click to check Show Quick Launch.
4. Click Ok button.

4 - INSERTING A SHORTCUT ICON ON THE QUICK LAUNCH


In the following activity we will insert the Windows Explorer Icon to the
Quick Launch bar.
1. Click Start.
2. Point to All Programs.
3. Point to Accessories.
4. Right-click Windows Explorer.
5. Click Create Shortcut.
The Windows Explorer (2) icon was created.
6. Drag the Windows Explorer (2) to your Desktop.
The Windows Explorer (2) Shortcut icon was created on your Desktop.
7. Drag the Windows Explorer (2) icon to the Quick Launch bar.
You can now see the Windows Explorer icon on the Quick Launch Bar.
To quickly launch (Open) the Windows Explorer, just click the Windows
Explorer Icon on the Quick Launch bar.

5 - REMOVING AN ICON FROM THE QUICK LAUNCH BOX


1. Right-click the icon you want to remove.
2. Click Delete.
3. Click Yes button.

6 - DELETING A SHORTCUT ICON ON THE DESKTOP


1. Right-click the shortcut icon you want to delete, then click Delete.
2. Click Yes button.

7 - ARRANGING THE ICONS ON YOUR DESKTOP


1. Right-click your Desktop.
2. Click Arrange Icons.

3. Choose from the available options (By Name, Type, Size, Date, or Auto Arrange).
8 - OPENING THE HELP DIALOG BOX
1. Click Start button.
2. Click Help and Support.
The Microsoft Help and Support window will appear.
3. Type a keyword that you need help. Example: date
4. Click Start Searching button.
5. Click to select a topic you need help.
The information you need will be displayed in the right pane.
To print the information, click the Print button.
Click Change View button to display only the help contents.
Click Change View button again to return to the original view.

9 – OPENING A SUB MENU


If you want to open the game called Minesweeper:
1. Click the Start button.
2. Point the mouse pointer to All Programs.
3. Move your mouse up then point to Games then click the Minesweeper icon.

10 – SWITCHING BETWEEN PROGRAMS


When you open a program, document, or window, a button appears on the task bar.
You can use this button to quickly switch between the applications you opened.
We can try this one by opening two programs. (Paint & Wordpad)
1. Click Start / All Programs / Accessories / Paint.
2. Repeat Number 1 procedure, this time click WordPad.
Now observe what happen when you click Paint button and Word Pad button on
the task bar.
When you run more than one application simultaneously, you call
this MULTI-TASKING.
When you open several files using the same program, you can switch between
the files by clicking the icon on the taskbar, then select the name of the file.

11 - MINIMIZE ALL WINDOWS


You can minimize all open windows at once. Right click an empty area on the
task bar, and then click Show the Desktop. Try this, when all the applications are maximized.
To restore your windows to their original state, right click a blank area on the task
bar, then click Show Open Windows.

12 – DISPLAYING ALL OPEN WINDOWS


1. Using your right mouse button, click a blank area on the taskbar.
2. Click either Cascade, Tile Horizontally or Tile Vertically.
To restore your windows to their original state, click Undo Tile or Undo
Cascade.

MS WORD 2003

1 – OPENING MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD 2003

1. Click Start.
2. Point to Programs.
3. Click Microsoft Office Word 2003.
Or
1. Click Start.
2. Click New Office Document.
3. On the General Tab, click Blank Document.
4. Click Ok Button.
Or
Double-click any Word document icon, either on your Windows desktop or inside a folder, to
start Word and open the document.

2 – SHOW OR HIDE A TOOLBAR

1. Click View on the menu bar, point to Toolbars, then click to check to add a toolbar. The
toolbars that were displayed on the screen has been checked.
To find out what a button on a toolbar does, place the mouse pointer over the
button.
A yellow flag pops up with the name of the button. If a toolbar button is gray
instead of black, the command is not available at that time.

3 – CUSTOMIZING TOOLBARS

1. Click View on the menu bar, point to Toolbars then click Customize.
2. Click Command tab.
3. Click to select a category. Example: File
4. Select a command (Example: New), then drag it to a new location (on the Formatting
toolbar).
