The teacher I interviewed was Ms. Rose Ann Mae B. Tubal. She is 23 years old, a
graduate of AB BSE major in Social Studies at University of Nueva Caceres and currently
taking her Masters degree on the same school. While waiting for her graduation last March
2014, she was hired in February on the same year for a teaching job at St. Joseph School. It
is her second year of teaching Araling Panlipunan at Camarines Sur National High School
and assigned to teach in Grade 10.

(After a brief introduction of myself and the purpose of this interview, I ask the first
question on my list.)

Gjianne: For the first question po Maam, how is teaching so far?

Maam Rose: Teaching so far, uhm this is my second year so satisfying maybe because Im
just a newbie in the profession and uhm and Im handling good classes this school year so
satisfying siya.
Gjianne: Less stress po.

Maam Rose: Less stress compared to my first year in the public school setup.

Gjianne: Thats good to know po. Next, what can you say about the new curriculum? The K-
12 curriculum po?

Maam Rose: Hmm in what aspect? You mean ano, extending the stay of students in the
school? It has both pros and cons, but we should focus on the pros or the advantages since
were in the education field. Pro siya because were competing globally by extending our
number of years in the school. Maybe halimbawa since para yung graduates natin dito, if
they want to compete globally, they can. With the previous ahh curriculum, they will still go
to school para makakuha sila ng trabaho na same na nakukuha nilang trabaho dito.

Gjianne: Thats very true po Maam. In some cases, kapag nag apply ka po ng work sa ibang
bansa, hindi ka kaagad mahihire kasi kulang yung number of years spent mo in high school.

natin for the future.

Gjianne: Ahh, I agree po. In terms of classroom assessment, what is/are the usual
classroom assessment that you do?

Maam Rose: Uhhmmm ideally, there should be authentic assessment and the traditional,
the paper and pencil. Ahh since we want to develop holistic learners and not just
intellectual monsters, we should have both authentic and traditional. Authentic in the sense
na they would apply the knowledge they had gained from the lecture that the teacher had
given to them and we need also a black and white evidence of the knowledge, I mean the
paper and pencil assessment. Pero, both are needed pero minsan kasi with the time
constraint, uhm we usually end up with the paper and pencil so it would be easier for the
teacher as well as to the students. So yun.

Gjianne: I see. Since 1 hour lang po ang AP in every meeting, limited po yung nagagawa
niyong assessment for the students. Okay po, so how do you plan your instruction and
assessment?

Maam Rose: Uhm instruction and assessment, dapat baga with the philosophy of
education field, it always begins with the end in mind. Dapat habang nagsstart ka kang
saimong instruction, you already have an idea what kind of assessment ang gagawin mo for
that certain topic.

Maam Rose: Ano pangit yun. Kaya baga kasali siya sa lesson planning.

Gjianne: So do you favor the traditional views of assessment or the recent trends in
assessment?

Maam Rose: Uhm both have pros and cons so we need to maximize both to get the full
potential of both assessment techniques.
very hard to adapt to the changes in the curriculum, so minsan talaga magagamit mo pa
yung traditional pero since 21st century na kita and we need to develop 21st century
learners, we must adapt kaso lang hindi siya in a blink of an eye magagawa. It will take time

Gjianne: Hmm. Last na lang po.

Maam Rose: Sige po.

Gjianne: What is or are the importance of implementing non-traditional assessment

techniques?

Maam Rose: Non-traditional, basically sila yung nagkukuha ng attention ng estudyante,

kapag bago usually baga, dawa kita everytime na may bago tayong damit or bagong gamit,
gusto ta susluton ta or gagamiton ta tapos ipapahiling ta na oy may bagong akong gamit.
Kapag may bago

Kaya dapat paminsan minsan mag try ka man
iba. Ang problem sa arog kayan na set up, time ang problema lalong lalo na kapag dakol ang
uhm estudyante tapos kadakol distraction sa klase. Kadakol holiday, kadakol bakasyon,

Pero since
authentic type of assessment, okay magayunon siya, active pati kaiyan and very engaging
The following day
saka pa lang sinda mapresent so sa ika 3rd day ka palan malecture?

And supposed to be dapat kaya sa AP bako na siya itong blah blah blah blah blah
You supplement the important
details tapos ang gibuhon mo, sinda ang magdiscover tas ipresent. Kapag medyo may tara

Gjianne: Yes po, thank you so much po for giving me your time and sharing your ideas to
me. In some way, may malinaw na po akong vision of what is really like teaching in the
public schools.

Maam Rose: Okay no problem.

Gjianne: Madami po akong natutuhan from you.

Maam Rose: Thats good to know and good luck sayo, isang taon na lang.

Gjianne: Opo thank you po, hays napepressure and naeexcite na ngani po ako at the same
time na magtukdo.

Maam Rose: Kaya mo iyan.

Gjianne: Thank you po ulit Maam.
