Guess Which State Has the Highest Life Expectancy in Malaysia

The Department of Statistics Malaysia has, on Monday, revealed that the Land of the
Hornbills, Sarawak, has the highest life expectancy compared to other states in the country.
According to the Department, Sarawakian men live up to an average of 75.1 years old, while
women in the state has an average life expectancy of 78.6 years. Residents in the Federal
Territories have the second highest life expectancy (at 74.4 years for men and 78.4 years for
women) and Selangor came in third with an expectancy of 73.4 years for men and 77.7 years
for women. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the spectrum, Terengganu has the lowest life
expectancy at birth; 68.8 years for the gents and 74.6 years for the ladies.

The Department of Statistics also revealed that Malaysians in general are living longer today
compared to a couple of years back. Malaysians can expect to live up to an average of 74.8
years in 2017, with the men living up to 72.7 years and the women, 77.4 years. Six years
ago, the average life expectancy was only 74.3 years, so that's a pretty impressive 0.5 years
increase.
Other than that, the statistics show that Malaysians can expect to live up to 74.8 years in
2017, compared with 74.3 years in 2011. And thats not all, Malaysian-Chinese are living
longer than bumiputeras and Indians.

It was reported that Chinese men live up to 75 years whereas Chinese women live up to 80.2
years. Furthermore, the life expectancy for bumiputeras is 71.4 years and 76.2 years for male
and female respectively; while Indian men and women can expect to live up to 67.8 years and
76.3 years respectively. All ethnic groups and life expectancy by state in Malaysia also
recorded a rise in the period from 2010 till 2017.
