we tested the paper bag test which is a sign for lipids. Firstly we placed one drop of water on the first paper towel sheet and a drop of fat on the second towel sheet. As you can see from the before and after photos the water is much less staining when compared to the fats added, which have a deeper stain and also spread farther on the paper. In the after photo you can see that the water has started to evaporate, which the fats have not, as well the fats are relatively plain on the paper, while the water tends to warp the paper and leave the paper warped after evaporating. The test results are positive for lipids on the bottom paper towel sheet due to the coloration, and characteristics of lipids. Sudan IV Test In this Sudan IV test we used three test tubes. The first was our control with 10 droplets of water and 5 droplets of oil, which would be insoluble so there was a level of oil on the top. While in our second tube we added our control and 5 droplets of Sudan IV as the first part of the lipids test. The third test tube was a positive test when boiled in water the Sudan IV and oil dissolved into each other since both are nonpolar and hydrophobic. Sudan IV stains lipids a reddish-orange so our test result concludes positive for lipids.
