MY AIM IN LIFE

Introduction:-Every man is a dreamer. These dreams are knit to be fulfilled in future. Some of them take
the shape of aims. An aim is the destination that we wish to reach. It is ,indeed, the goal, the target we set
for our life. An aim is the path we choose to go ahead in life. An aim is , therefore, the life and soul of
our living as human beings. Without an aim, a man tumbles here and there in the dark. It is the guiding
star which shows us the way to success. An aim is the tower of light which illuminates our way through
life. So an aim plays a very significant role in human life. For a student, it is much more important to
chalk out the programme and plan for his future. It is indeed the choice of a profession for him that
makes his life meaningful. If a man has a definite aim, he will surely assert all his energies and
capabilities to achieve it. Thus all human effort gets directed to a certain goal. All our efforts , struggles
and cares are centered towards an orbital point. A student should have a clear concept what he wants to
be in life. As Robert Browning says," The aim, if reached or not, makes great the life." It is a fact that all
great men in the world had some definite aim before them. They were great because they worked
dedicatedly for the achievement of their aims.
I am a student. I have some clear goals before me. I intend to become a teacher. I am interested in English
Language and Literature. Though it is a foreign language for me, yet I am fully aware of the ever-
increasing importance of English in the modern era. I wish to become a Professor of English.
In my view, teaching is the best profession in the world even in this age of materialism. It is the age old
institution that has stood its ground firmly. I like teaching profession because of many reasons.
Teaching is a prophetic job. All the teachers are indeed the disciples of Prophets. They are performing the
task of propagating the ways of God to men. They are surely the divine messengers who are involved in
the spiritual enlightenment of the mankind. They teach , instruct, guide, reform and educate.
Teaching is definitely a very noble and graceful profession. A teacher is involved in the noble task of
nation building. He can make or unmake a nation. The future of a nation lies in the hands of young men.
A teacher is the person who is responsible for the proper training and nourishment of the young. After the
lap of a mother, a young has the first intimate relationship with his teacher. So a teacher leaves very deep
and indelible imprints on the mind of a young man. It the education provided by a teacher that goes a
long way in the making of his personality. Teaching profession is thus the institution of refinement and
trimming. A teacher refines the character and personality of his pupils.
Great respect and reverence is assigned to teachers by society. A teacher is respected and honoured for
his noble deed of upbringing the young ones of society. A society owes much to a teacher. So in response
, it assigns respect and regard for the services rendered by the teacher. A society gives its teachers the
respect they deserve.
Teachers enlighten the dark hearts with the light of knowledge and wisdom. They teach us how to live in
society. They teach us how to lead a successful life. They teach us how to behave with other fellow
beings. They teach us how to make a nation strong with our noble deeds. They teach us to live for others.
They infuse the spirit of selflessness, love , sympathy, compassion and cooperation. They make us useful
citizens in the running machine of society.
It goes without saying that the future of a nation rests upon the shoulders of a teacher because he is surely
a nation builder. A teacher is an ideal for his students. So they try to copy him as a role model. A teacher
can thus set a noble precedent of upright character. He can instill in them the moral virtues of
truthfulness, honesty and sincerity of purpose. He can mould and shape their lives.
A teacher can create an honourable place for himself in society by rendering dedicated services to the
greater cause of the nation. No doubt, teaching is a low-paid profession in the world but the inner
satisfaction it provides is everlasting and precious. I am not a money-seeker. I intend to serve my nation
in the best possible way. Other professions have their own charms but the joy and satisfaction of heart
and soul which teaching provides surpasses them in every way. It is indeed a self-rewarding profession.
A Teacher is the second father of man. It is the fact that still holds its ground inspite of the rapid
commercialization of education.
I am attracted by this profession because of its sobriety and seriousness of purpose. It is a delicate job to
educate the young ones of a society. It is a profession of knowledge and learning. A good teacher is
always a scholar of his age. New mysteries of universe are known to him. He is surely intellectually very
high above the common lot. A good teacher is also a good guide for his pupils. He shows them the right
path of life.
All these attractions have helped me in reaching the final decision. I am working day and night to achieve
my aim. I have started burning mid-night oil to fulfill my dream of becoming a Professor of English.
