Notes from the Parish Office…
Parish Registration—Welcome to all new families/individuals.
Please register as soon as possible. Membership is a condition for the
reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation
and Marriage. Registration is also required before: the parish can issue a
sponsorship certificate for those asked to be sacramental sponsors, a
parish verification form for catholic schools can be signed, and regis-
tration in our PSR program. Registration packages are available in the
parish office or on the table at the back of the church.
Using the Facility—Usage is determined on a first come first
serve basis so schedule early. The more we grow the smaller our space
seems to be and the greater need we have for working together during
the year to schedule events, meetings, workshops, classes, training, etc.
Please call the church office to schedule.
All Ministers—If you are actively ministering don’t be surprised
when your ministry head gives you a volunteer application. Archdioce-
san Policy requires us to have a volunteer application for everyone who
performs a ministry. Additionally, if you have contact with children or
vulnerable adults it is required that you watch a “Safe Environment
Video” on sexual abuse and complete several related forms. If you
have any questions about this process please either ask your ministry
head or call the church office.
Bulletin Deadline—Announcements and notices for the bulletin
must be submitted by noon on Tuesday for the following Sunday
bulletin. You may e-mail them to rtodd@saintmatthew.us. or fax them
to 770.964.1228.
Farewell to our Parish Family—If you plan to leave our par-
ish family we wish you well and ask God to continue to bless you on
your spiritual journey. Please be so kind as to email us at

Dear St. Matthew’s Parish Family,
Thanks to all who have lent me a helping hand along my
path toward college. There are many people in our parish
that have offered words of advice and spiritual support for
me as I prepare to enter Georgia Tech this fall. I am also
grateful to everyone who donated to the Noonan scholar-
ship fund that I recently received. The money will help
make college more affordable for me (especially since my
dad lost his job back in November). To me, this spiritual
and financial support serves as positive advice from the
collective wisdom of St. Matthew Church. This reminds me
of the graduation ceremony this year, where I gave a
speech about “advice”. I explained that ‘while advice can
be the light that illuminates the path to success, it can also
become the glare that blinds one from seeing it.’ I warned
my fellow classmates that some advice could cause one to
stray from the path. The support St. Mathew has given me
will definitely illuminate the path before me. So thank you
very much for everything. I would be lost without the faith
that St. Matthew helps sustain within me.

Young Adult Ministry

Confirmed Teens and Their Parents
On July 31, we are holding a planning meeting for Con-
firmed Saint Matthew Parish teens, 16-18 years old, and
their parents. We will be planning future activities and
events for this group, and listening to ideas for developing
the group in the future. The night will be a combination of
socializing with light food and drinks, and an informal
meeting of the adults. There will be time for billiards, video
games, other entertainment, and an informal discussion for
the teens in the basement. The meeting will be held July 31,
at 7 PM, at the home of John and Janet LeBlanc.

Paul Caruso, Director of St. Joseph Caffasso Prison Ministry in
Roswell, will be at St. Matthew's on Monday night, June 30, at
7:30 p.m. to discuss his pen pal program and recruit those who

Retrouvaille (pronounced Re-trō-vī’)
Retrouvaille is a Catholic ministry for couples in troubled mar-
riages and for separated and divorced couples considering recon-
ciliation. The program helps couples to better understand their
relationship while teaching them practical skills to bring healing
and renewal. Although Retrouvaille is a Catholic program, they
welcome couples from all faith expressions. The word Retrou-
vaille (pronounced Re-trō-vī’) simply means 'rediscovery'. Begun
in French Canada in 1977, and established in Atlanta in 1985, it
is now offered world-wide.
Retrouvaille is presented on a weekend at a local hotel by a priest
and three trained volunteer couples who have participated in the
program themselves. Typically 30 to 40 couples attend. Couples
aren’t required to share personal information with the group.
Both members of the couple must have a willingness to partici-
pate. They are also asked to discontinue any extramarital affairs
and to address alcohol or drug problems before registering.
A series of in-depth presentations, given by one of the married
couples and a priest, will focus on specific areas of a marriage
relationship such as values, conflict, forgiveness, sexuality, trust,
intimacy, and marriage as a sacrament. The emphasis is on a
technique of communication between a husband and wife. After
each presentation, there is an opportunity for personal reflection
and then private couple discussion. The focus is to help couples,
who may be coping with serious and diverse problems such as
infidelity or the death of a child, realize how forgiveness and
communication can help build stable relationships.
The weekend program is followed by six post-weekend sessions.

Just as God miraculously freed Peter from prison, He
can free us from the chains that the pursuit of posses-
sions can wrap around us. We just need to strive to
live a life of stewardship – putting God first in our
schedules, in our days and in our budgets.

Ministry Highlight
Circle of Friends
This support ministry reaches out to those who have pro-
longed illnesses or have experienced a death in the fam-
ily. They prepare meals to be delivered to the homes of
those who are unable to cook for themselves. In addi-
tion, when a death occurs in our Parish Family they
spring into action by delivering food to the home for the
families and their guests. After the funeral a reception
can be held for family and friends to allow them to
gather and meet with those attending
the funeral. This vital ministry is a tre-
mendous asset to our Parish. For more
