Tha data analytics is growing in leapts and bounds . Nasscom forecasts that this industry will be USD 2.3 bl by 2017,
IDC forecasts that the industry is expected to rise to USD 5 billion by the same year. There will be approximately 2
million jobs in India (Gartner's prediction). The Big Data technology and services market represents a fast-growing
multibillion-dollar worldwide opportunity. In fact, a recent forecast shows that the Big Data technology and services
market will grow at a 26.4% compound annual growth rate to $41.5 billion through 2018, or about six times the
growth rate of the overall information technology market. The growing heaps of data needs right talent to
manage and use the same. Firms engaging in using this technology are in hunt of talent that have computing background.

Proprietary software might not be able to address these growing needs, reasons are aplenty. One of the important resasons
is that commercial software is costly (TOC) and unaordable. Due to this piracy is rampant both at individual and
instituional level which is against to professional ethics at least in academics.

The mission of Social Research Insights (SRI) is to promote and induct open source technology for data science

Data Base Management: Introduction to MySQL; MySQL for Pentaho
Community Data Framework: Pentaho CDE and CDF for descriptive statistics and advanced visualization.

Tools used for this workdshop are open source and they are free.

This program is available through Windows & Linux OS. Linux is an operating system just like Windows
and MacOS. Perhaps more robust, undefeatable in
performance and ecicency. Linux can be used by both beginners and advanced users.
