Welcome to the Julia Landon 6th Grade Team! It is a privilege to have your child
as a member of our sixth grade team for the 2010-2011 school year.
JLCP is a gifted and academically talented program, and only advanced courses
are offered. It will be extremely important for your child to be strong in the areas
of reading comprehension and mathematics. Your child will also have to be
prepared for class every day. Students will need to keep their planners,
notebooks and an independent reading book with them at all times. Here are
some of the activities your child can expect to participate in this year:
*Some assignments/projects may require use of the public library and/or the
Internet.
Good attendance is extremely important. It will be necessary for your child to
be here so that he/she will not get behind in the required work. If a student is
absent, the following guidelines will be used for turning in make-up work:
It is your child’s responsibility to get his/her make-up work from each teacher
when they return to class. They may ask the teacher, check the teacher’s blog on
the school’s website (www.duvalschools.org/landon), or ask another student.
Late work, different than make-up work, is accepted, however with penalty. It is
strongly encouraged for students to turn in assignments on time.
Consequences:
Teachers will give verbal warnings for minor class disturbances and minor
behaviors problems. However, if the student does not correct his or her
behavior, the following plan will be followed:
1. Parent Contact
2. Team Timeout (in another teacher’s room or administrator’s office)
3. Parent Conference
4. Referral
(Multiple offenses or a serious violation of the Student Code of Conduct will result in a Referral.)
Documentation
Remember to write students a note if they are absent. This note needs to
explain why the student was out and must have a parent signature. This is to
be turned in to the Main Office, and the child will be given a readmit slip to
class. The absences will be considered unexcused until the school receives your
note. Also, please send a signed note to inform us if your child needs to leave
early for any reason.
The teachers will keep a Team file with all of your child’s documents: readmit
slips, tardy slips, progress reports, returned report cards, scholarship
warnings, and other papers for use in parent conferences. This is to ensure
that both the parents and the teachers are aware of good behavior and/or
problems that each student might be having at school.
In order for this plan to work, we need your support. Discuss these
expectations with your child. Return the attached form with both your
signature and your child’s signature to your child’s homeroom teacher in the
next three days. We are looking forward to a successful school year.
By signing, you are informing the teachers that you have seen the Sixth Grade
Team Discipline Plan for 2010-2011.
