On New Years Eve many people go to parties or get together with friends, families or
neighboursandtheystayupuntilmidnighttoseetheNewYearin.Somepeopledontseemto
beabletohelpdrinkingabitmorethantheyshouldonthisnight.InEnglishspeakingcountries,
and especially in Scotland, they sing a special song called Auld Lang Syne. In large cities
around the world people gather to celebrate in the main squares. For instance, in New York,
thousands of people congregate in Times Square to await the New Year. In London, people
gathertocelebrateinTrafalgarSquare,waitingforBigBentostriketwelve.Whenitisalmost
midnightpeopleareveryquietbutwhenBigBenbeginstostriketheyallstartcheering.People
greeteachotherandsomeevenkissthepolicewhoaretheretocontrolthecrowd.Itmightbe
