THE HUMANE SOLUTION

2 GOLDEN RULES TO LIVE BY:

I. ADOPT, DONT SHOP
Adopt your pets. One does not buy family. Be it off the streets, or
from a shelter, it is extremely important to make sure that the
dog you decide to bring into your life, does not promote the evils
of pet breeding. The results are not going to be immediate, but
in the long term, breeders are only going to take a step back
once the demand for new born pedigree puppies reduces.

This is why one should adopt and not shop:

1) BECAUSE YOU WILL SAVE A LIFE

Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in
the United States, simply because too many pets come into
shelters and too few people consider adoption when looking for

dramatically if more people adopted pets instead

of buying them. When you adopt, you save a
loving animal by making them part of your family
and open up shelter space for another animal
who might desperately need it.

2) YOU WILL GET A RESCUED

ANIMAL

Animal shelters and rescue groups are brimming

with happy, healthy pets just waiting for
someone to take them home. Most shelter pets
wound up there because of a human problem
like a move or a divorce, not because the animals
did anything wrong. Many are already
housetrained and used to living with families.

3) IT IS ALWAYS MORE
ECONOMICAL

Usually when one adopts a pet, the cost of

spay/neuter, first vaccinations (and sometimes
even microchipping!) is included in the adoption
price, which can save you some of the up front

costs of adding a new member to your family. Depending on the animal, you may also save on housebreaking
and training expenses.

4) IT HELPS FIGHT PUPPY MILLS

If you buy a dog from a pet store, online seller or flea market, youre almost certainly getting a dog from a
puppy mill.

Puppy mills are factory-style breeding facilities that put profit above the welfare of dogs. Animals from puppy
mills are housed in shockingly poor conditions with improper medical care, and are often very sick and
behaviorally troubled as a result. The moms of these puppies are kept in cages to be bred over and over for
years, without human companionship and with little hope of ever joining a family. And after they're no longer
profitable, breeding dogs are simply discardedeither killed, abandoned or sold at auction.

These puppy mills continue to stay in business through deceptive tactics their customers are unsuspecting
consumers who shop in pet stores, over the Internet or through classified ads. Puppy mills will continue to
operate until people stop supporting them. By adopting a pet, you can be certain you aren't giving them a
dime.

5) LESS MAINTENANCE FOR FIRST TIME PET OWNERS

Many of the pets from shelters and rescues are already housetrained, which means youre not only saving a

pets life, you may be saving your rug. Adopting a mature pet not only gives older animals a second chance, it
often means introducing them to your family will be much easier.

6) ADOPTEES ARE EMOTIONALLY MORE GIVING

Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally
and physically beneficial to their companions. Caring for a pet can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment
and lessen feelings of loneliness. And when you adopt, you can also feel proud about helping an animal in
need!

7) ADOPTION HELPS MORE THAN ONE ANIMAL

Overburdened shelters take in millions of stray, abused, and lost animals every year, and by adopting an
animal, youre making room for others. Not only are you giving more animals a second chance, but the cost of
your adoption goes directly towards helping those shelters better care for the animals they take in!

II ADOPT AN INDIE
Firstly, what are Desi-indies?

Desi-Indies are known as Indian pariah dogs. They are the aboriginal landrace, or naturally selected breed of
the Indian sub-continent. It is also called the Indian native rod and is nowadays referred to as the INDog by
experts and enthusiasts. Urban Indian street dogs are usually Indian pariah dogs. Now, we shall list down

plenty of valid reasons why an Indie should get an equal right of getting adopted!

1) THEY ARE FITTER

Since breeding processes, especially in India, are conducted in such a haphazard manner, the pure breeds
often have genetic health issues. This is almost nil for Indian dogs since the ones that are on the street are the
fittest that survived.

2) THEY ARE SUITED TO THE CLIMATE

A lot of vets and pet handlers believe that bringing up Desi indies is a lot easier than having an exotic pet at
home, owing to their steel strong immune system and their ability to adapt to the Indian weather. One needs
to have their Indie pets vaccinated of course, but apart from the regular medical care, love and affection,
these pets hardly ever need anything unlike exotic pets who find it hard to handle the heat here. You are not
just being cruel to your exotic pets but are also denying a beautiful home to a Desi who could live with you
much more easily.

3) INTELLIGENT AND EASILY ADAPTABLE

Desi indies are equally intelligent and sensitive to their surroundings, therefore, training them to look after
your homes is also not a difficult task. The fact that strays are born in a difficult and competitive environment
and yet manage to survive says a lot about their adaptation qualities.

4) THEY GENUINELY NEED SHELTER

Money can buy a dog but not the wag of its tail. Adopt a stray that actually needs shelter and it would love

you like no one else in the world.

6) THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL TOO

It doesnt matter how dogs look. Its the heart that counts not the fur. If youve ever loved a dog, youd know
how hard it is to objectify them into a status symbol.

7) DISCOURAGING PUPPY MILLS AND BREEDERS

By choosing to adopt a homeless dog, youre taking a stand against cruelty to animals by money-minting
breeders.

8) DISPELLING STEREOTYPES AND MISCONCEPTIONS

Street dogs are not a nuisance. They belong to the society much more than you do. We been building upon
what was their natural habitat, rendering them homeless. We owe it to them!
