Established to provide pharmacy students with a structured learning
experience intended to provide a comprehensive exposure to hospital and
health system pharmacy practice.

Carilion Clinic Pharmacy Summer Internship P1 and P2


Expose student interns to current standards of care and the role of the
pharmacist and pharmacy technician within hospitals and health systems
Provide student interns with experience in completing a research project and
presenting the results of the project.
Provide students with the opportunity to interact with other health care
professionals and develop an understanding of the multidisciplinary approach
to patient care.
Four interns are hired for the summer and are scheduled to work 40 hours per
week for 10 weeks.
Interns must be available for 10 consecutive weeks, from May 30-August 4,
2017.
A commitment of two to three weekends and some evenings will be
incorporated into the internship schedule

Senior COSTEP for P2s
o This highly competitive program is available to full-time students about to
begin their final year of academic study or professional training.
o Those selected for the program will become Commissioned officers in the
U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) and receive full pay and benefits of
an active duty officer for up to 12 months just for finishing their education
and training.

Indian Health Services Externship

The IHS student externship is a wonderful opportunity for pharmacy students!


Basically, IHS pays students to go out and intern at various Indian Clinics
throughout Oklahoma (or wherever you prefer to be that summer). Anyone can
apply, but preference is given for IHS Scholars and Native American students. By
April, I was notified that I had been accepted as a student extern, and was asked
which Indian clinic(s) I would prefer. I chose to work at the Chickasaw Health
Clinic in Purcell, which gave me valuable experience in both community and
ambulatory care pharmacy. My application for summer 2017 was due by
January 31st.

VA Hospital P2s
Valor program
o VA Oklahoma City Pharmacy VALOR program will provide opportunities
for outstanding students to develop competencies in pharmacy practice
while working at an approved VA healthcare facility.

The 10-week summer intern program at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Hospital
Rochester is a comprehensive, educational pharmacy internship that offers in-
depth exposure to pharmaceutical services to help you further explore pharmacy
as your future career.
For the hospital/inpatient practice setting, up to eight candidates are selected
each year

Corporate Internship

Allergan Plc P2 and P3


Specialized Summer Internship Program in Health Outcomes for two student
pharmacists.
The programs goal is to stimulate student pharmacists' interest in career options
in health outcomes and pharmacoeconomics through exposure to research,
measurement and applications to evidence-based decision-making.
The interns will gain knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, managed health
care systems, a public charity, and professional association management.
9 weeks at the Allergan's Global Health Economic and Outcomes Research
Department in Irvine, Ca., under the supervision of pharmacist preceptors and
will complete a health outcomes-related project.
Interns will also spend up to one week at AMCP/Foundation headquarters.

Genetech P2 and P3
The goal of this program is to gain knowledge of the biotechnology industry and
provide an opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and interact with
industry experts within the Evidence for Access Team US Medical Affairs at
Genentech.
Two student pharmacists will spend 10-12 consecutive weeks at the Genentech
campus in South San Francisco, Calif., under the supervision of a
preceptor/manager.

Pfizer, Inc., - P2 and P3

Its goal is to develop future leaders in managed health care through activities that
expose interns to population health and the application of managed care
pharmacy principles in formulary management, benefit design, medication
therapy management and adherence management
Eight student pharmacists will be selected for internships through a nationwide
selection process.
During the 10-week program each intern will be assigned to a health plan,
pharmacy benefit management company, employer, or other sites.

Cardinal Health Nuclear Internship Nuclear Pharmacy Focus


The Cardinal Health Nuclear Internship helps students work and learn nuclear
pharmacy operations, from filling a dose to transporting that dose. Cardinal Health also
helps students expand their opportunities in a number of ways. Such as, setting up
visits to hospital sites to view scans and procedures, visits to corporate, PET facilities,
manufacturing facilities, and other nuclear pharmacies. I was able to have an all-
inclusive experience from the hospital to the conference room.

The program lasts 10 - 12 weeks during the summer, but they are very flexible if you
need to take certain dates off. They also have locations in every state and will help you
get your top pick of places. The internship pays well and has a stipend for relocation.

Biogen Summer Internship


Our Intern Program runs in the summer months. Most interns start in late May
or early June and work through August depending on their schools schedule.

APhA Institute on Alcoholism and Drug Dependencies: P1-3


APhA hosts a 3-day conference in Salt Lake City, Utah for pharmacy students to
come learn about alcoholism and drug dependencies. It is a really moving
conference in which you hear first-hand testimonials from former/current
alcoholics or people with drug dependencies. The conference also does a great
job of providing the science behind addiction. There are many great speakers
including doctors, pharmacists, and other health care professionals. Application
is due in March.

Ten-week training program in national association management.
The program is located at our headquarters in Bethesda, MD and is designed to
provide experience in such areas as:

To provide an undergraduate pharmacy student with an opportunity to gain
association experience in the specific areas of membership development and

Throughout the ten-week program internship at the ASHP office, the intern shall

NCPA Summer Internship:


This program, conducted at NCPA headquarters in Alexandria, VA,
provides a pharmacy student with an excellent opportunity to experience
life at a national association, while also learning more about the many
opportunities that exist in independent community pharmacy practice
The Summer Intern will be located in the Management Institute
Department and will become acquainted with and also work with several
of the other departments in NCPA such as: Communications,
Government Affairs, and Membership Services.
A five week and a final week report are required. The intern is expected
to complete at least one project in a mutually agreed upon area of
interest.

Students have the opportunity to engage industry experts in thorough
discussions related to financial topics and business ownership.
This experience reveals the realities faced by pharmacy owners, conveys
what it takes to get financing in place and teaches strategies to operate a
successful business.

Summer Meetings

SNPhA Annual Conference


SNPhA has a national conference in the end of July. The conference is great for any
field of pharmacy. They have speakers and exhibits that include residency, retail, and
industry pharmacy topics. This past year they even had some info about community
residencies (residencies in a retail pharmacy) that I think are a great option that a lot of
people do not know about. There are many different workshops and lectures students
can go to and plenty of networking opportunities.

AACP Annual Meeting


The AACP Annual Meeting is the largest gathering of academic pharmacy
administrators, faculty and staff, and each year offers 70 or more educational programs
that cut across all disciplines. The Association has gone green with respect to
presentation handouts and offers both attendees and others not able to attend the
meeting access to speakers slides and other resources during and after each meeting.

The ASHP Summer Meetings and Exhibition offers four content-targeted conferences
that are held concurrently. This allows you to focus and participate in education and

P4 APPE Rotations
The APhA Experiential Program in Association Management & Leadership
It is a 4- to 6-week rotation experience at the Headquarters of the American
Pharmacists Association in Washington, D.C. The rotation serves as a final-year
elective within a school or college of pharmacy's curriculum-based experiential
program.
Our diverse range of national programs and services allows us to offer opportunities
tailored to the specific interests of each student pharmacist, and to provide a
preceptor whose area of expertise can best help the student reach his or her
educational goals. All students will:
Gain an understanding of the mission, goals and objectives, organizational
structure, programs and services of the American Pharmacists Association.
Participate in appropriate staff and leadership meetings of the Association
occurring during the experiential opportunity.
Identify and analyze high priority issues in pharmacy practice.
Develop skills in verbal and written communication, information gathering,
evaluation, and analysis for use in specific organizational areas.
Students will be assigned to one APhA department for the entire APPE experience.

AACP Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience
Opportunities for student pharmacists to learn the operations of the national
association involved in academic pharmacy.
The rotation schedule is designed to be 4-6 weeks in duration and is available
SeptemberApril. No students will be accepted for the month of December.
The rotation is intended to be an elective opportunity for a college or school of
pharmacy's advanced pharmacy practice experience (APPE) curriculum-
based experiential program.
The student pharmacist:
Must have a strong interest in national association management and
academia;
Must be a full-time student pharmacist in good academic standing;
Must be a member of AACP; and
Must complete the application procedure through coordination with
their experiential program coordinator.

AACP does not accept APPE students from May 1-August 1 and the month of
December.

FDA Pharmacy Student Experiential Program


An opportunity to learn about the FDAs multidisciplinary processes for
addressing public health issues involving drugs, biologics, and medical
devices.
Pharmacy students who participate in the FDA Pharmacy Student
Experiential Program acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities beneficial to their
professional career.
Students are encouraged to apply in the year preceding their last year of
pharmacy school.
Rotations are available throughout the entire year, and may last anywhere
from 4-6 weeks, depending upon the schools experiential program.
We are accepting applications for the 2018-2019 academic school year.

CDC Pharmacy Student Experiential Program


Gives the student a general understanding of pertinent public health issues,
the roles pharmacists have within CDC, as well as the career opportunities
available for pharmacists in the U.S. Public Health Service.
The student will be able to take advantage of the many public health
lectures/seminars that are presented at CDC during their rotation.

Division of Bacterial Diseases-Respiratory Diseases,

Xcenda Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Health Outcomes/Managed


Care Rotation

To provide the PharmD candidate with a basic understanding of the clinical,


economic, and humanistic outcomes of healthcare interventions, focusing on
pharmacoeconomics and health care quality assessment.
Didactic and practical experience in these core areas will expose the student to a
variety of competencies utilized in a health outcomes research and managed
markets consulting firm.
The student will be exposed to and/or directly involved with the many steps in
conducting quality focused, outcomes-based research -- from proposal
development to analysis and manuscript preparation.
Specific project work may include assisting with any of the following:
Formulary dossier development
Database research protocol development and results interpretation
Quality improvement and disease management program participation
(protocol development, data collection form development, data
interpretation, report development, poster development)
Software-based model design (model design, identification of cost drivers,
selection of default values, screen shot development, model testing)
Outcomes research presentation development (identification of literature,
creation of outcomes story for products, development of slide kit)
Proposal development (various types of projects)
Participation in product market assessments
Health Economic Outcomes Research (HEOR) training tools (slide
development, script development, literature review)
Considering rotations are comprised of only 20 days of instruction, students are
expected to be in attendance 100% of the rotation block.
