Observation Task 1: Differentiating Centers

Focus: Differentiating centers based activities in the early childhood classroom

Objective: To encourage student teachers to identify how classroom centers can be

differentiated to meet all student levels (Mastery, Developing and Emerging)

Procedure: Photograph and document the centers based activities implemented in the setting
during the course of the day and identify the learning outcomes the activities met

Reflections on Observation Task 1: Differentiating Centers
Read the questions below and write your answers

1. What are classroom learning centers?

There are four learning centers in the classroom which is, math, English, art,
science.

2. What is the purpose of classroom learning centers?

Purpose of learning centers is to manage the time by letting each group sit in
their group that their teacher said, also that help the teacher to focus more on
medium and low-level students, and that let the children feel fun after they
finished their activity to play in art or other centers.
3. What is the role of the students while engaged during learning centers?
The role of the student in engaging the learning centers is to learn how to
follow the teacher instruction, and be friendly with their friend. Also, over time
the students learn how to share their things with their friends.

4. What is the role of the teacher as the students are engaged during
learning centers?
The role of teacher while the students engage the learning centers is, to guide
the students while they play in the centers or when they do the activity ask
them some question to know if they understand. Also, when the students play
in any centers the teacher asks the student about what he or she made to let
them discuss about it.
5. Do you feel it is important to offer tasks that are developmentally
appropriate for all student ability levels? Why / Why not?
Yes, the teacher should provide enough activities that fit the students level,
because each student has a certain way of understanding the lesson. According
to Vygotsky theory, the teacher should provide the (ZPD) zone approximal
development that means the students need to guide the students while they do
the activity to understand to let them complete by them self and some of the
students need more guidance to develop the weak aspect to do it by their self.
