Content / Task Achievement Marks


Fully satisfies all the requirements of the task and clearly presents a fully developed response. 21-25
Covers all requirements of the task sufficiently and illustrates key features appropriately. 16-20
Attempts to address the task but does not cover all key features. 11-15
The answer is barely related to the task. 6-10
The answer is completely unrelated to the task. 0-5

Coherence and cohesion Marks


Sequences information and ideas logically and manages all aspects of cohesion well. 21-25
Logically organises information and ideas. Good range of cohesive devices although there may 16-20
be some under-/over-use.
Arranges information and ideas coherently. Effective cohesive devices, but cohesion within 11-15
and/or between sentences may be faulty or mechanical.
Does not organise ideas logically and may use a very limited range of cohesive devices. 6-10
Fails to communicate any message. 0-5

Lexical Resource Marks


Uses a wide range of vocabulary. 21-25
Uses a sufficient range of vocabulary. 16-20
Uses only basic vocabulary which may be used repetitively or which may be inappropriate for the 11-15
task.
Uses an extremely limited range of vocabulary. 6-10
Can only use a few isolated words. 0-5

Grammatical Range and Accuracy Marks


Uses a wide range of structures with full flexibility; minor errors occur only as slips. 21-25
Uses a wide range of structures. The majority of sentences are error-free. Makes only very 16-20
occasional errors.
Uses only a very limited range of structures with only rare use of subordinate clauses. 11-15
Attempts sentence forms but errors in grammar and punctuation predominate and distort the 6-10
meaning.
Cannot use sentence forms except in memorised phrases. 0-5
