GRAND KNIGHTS MESSAGE

ONE KofC COUNCIL
My Brothers All,

The autumn changes are among us and the heat is going on. As we brace
for the coming seasons we reflect this month on the memories of our Brothers
whom have passed and thank God for the blessings that we have received.
Be sure to attend the Council Memorial Breakfast on November 5 it is an
experience you will not soon forget. We will all share in the 8am Mass at
St. Marks and then on to the Council for the Memorial Service at
approximately 9am.

have addressed several points and modifications that should yield better
results in the future. Thank you all for working to improve our meetings.

to all.
I am happy to announce that the Council is now able, together with a con-
tribution from the Ladies Auxiliary, to double its participation in our annual
Coats-For- Kids program. This year we plan to purchase two dozen boys
coats and two dozen girls coats for distribution by the parishes of St. Louis,
St. Anthony and St. Mark. Thanks goes to the members and ladies who
worked to raise the funds for this great program.

This month we are also able to donate directly to our parish Religious
Education programs through a grant from the New York State KofC Council.
The KofC State Council will match our contributions. We will sent a $500
check to each Parish: St. Louis; St. Anthony; and St. Mark. The State KofC
match means each parish Religious Ed. Office will receive $1,000. A much
needed and useful aid to our local parishes childrens faith development.

Mercy and the Mother of God

The following text is abridged from a homily given Dec. 8, 2015, at Thomas More College in Merrimack, N.H.,
and later published in a book titled Real Mercy: Mary, Forgiveness and Trust (Scepter, 2016).

Consider asking yourself the question, What will allow me to access the mercy of God? My answer is
that there are four conditions: trust, humility, gratitude and forgiveness. And Mary, who is the person with
the deepest love and knowledge of God, can help us with these.

We see in the Gospels that the mercy of God is the greatest mystery and the most beautiful treasure.
However, we have a difficult time accepting it because we really have very little trust in Gods forgiveness.

This attitude can come about for certain reasons. Perhaps it has to do with human psychology, but without a
doubt, there is a lack of trust. We dont really believe in this reality of the forgiveness of God, and so we dont
always fully welcome it. God forgives us, but we cant forgive ourselves.

So there is an issue of trust that is not easy for us because of our wounded human nature. Yet we have
the witness of the saints, such as St. Thrse of Lisieux and St. Faustina, who all emphasize the importance
of trust. What permits us to access Gods mercy? Trust complete trust in God. The greater the trust, the
more mercy will be given to us, and the more we will please God.

The second condition is humility. Sometimes, when we dont forgive ourselves even when God forgives us,
the reason is pride I dont accept being a person who has fallen, who has made mistakes. I would have
liked to have been the perfect person, infallible. But Ive made mistakes, and I cant accept having faults. This
stems from a certain form of pride.

There is a third important condition: gratitude. Jesus said in the Gospel, For to him who has, will more
be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away
A Prayer of Thanks (Mt 13:11). We can understand it this way: He who knows he has received gifts from God, who gives thanks
for these gifts, will receive more.
O Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our Mary gives us the gift of thanksgiving. Mary is the Virgin of the Magnificat. She sings the marvels and the

The fourth condition to receive Gods mercy abundantly is very clear in the Gospel: If you do not forgive,
is a great God, And a great King above all God cannot forgive you. Sometimes what stops us from receiving the mercy of God is our lack of mercy
gods, In whose hand are the depths of the toward others, our hardness of heart toward others, our lack of goodness toward others. And so we too need

she will ask for what we need.

District Deputys Message

Brothers and Sisters,

November is upon us, and for many of us it is the last time to enjoy some outdoor activities
(even if it is only raking leaves) before the real cold and snow begins to creep in. It is also a time
of Thanksgiving. A time to look back at the year and count our many blessings, the ones that we
take for granted most of the time, like family and friends. Soon the hustle and bustle of the Christmas
Season will be here, and well all be too busy running around, so do yourself a favor and take advantage
of this opportunity to give Thanks for all of the Blessings that we have.
Many of you have had Membership Drives or have Drives scheduled in the upcoming weeks. Lets see
what we can do to recruit new members before the end of 2017. Our District has been doing ok with
recruiting new members so far this year, and I know that some of the Councils have seen the benefits
of bringing in new members, so lets make a big push. Remember, we have a moral responsibility to ask
every Catholic man to become a member of the Knights of Columbus. There is a scheduled Third Degree
on Friday November 3 rd at St. Anthonys in East Northport. I invite all of my Third Degree Brothers to come
out and help to welcome in our newest Third Degree Brothers. Jackets and ties are a must.
The Fall is also a time when many of our Councils hold a Memorial Mass for their Fallen Brother Knights.
Let us all take a moment to remember all of our Brother Knights who we have lost this past year and their Families.
November is also our last opportunity to make a big push with our C&B drives. All books need to be handed in,
along with a Check for $6 per book made out to the N.Y.S. Council, by Thursday November 30 th . I will be going
up to the Mid-Year Meeting on December 1st and I will gladly bring any books and checks with me to hand in for
you at that time. The Drawing is December 2nd.
My wife Jessica and I would like to wish all of you a very Blessed, Safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

Vivat Jesus-

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and

defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be
an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the
young to the generous service of their neighbor.
Through the example of his life and virtue may
we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely,
fulfilling his commandment of charity and building
up his Body which is the Church. Let the
inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater
confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the
needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your
holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present
(here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
