20 Steps to improving your Networking at Shows, Parties
and other social media.

1. Find out who is coming.-Who, or what type of people.
2. Know your agenda- find good pathways, good advice,
experts in various fields. listen intently. get resources, tips. hopefully oppurtunities will arise. make a give list, and a get list.
3. Prepare for the question."What do you do"- be able to
ralk about your work in 2-3 sentences and in a way that sparks a conversation.
4. Pack your bag.- bring business cards, event postcards,
notebook (or daily planner) pen(s) use the notebook to write down leads, ideas, other information your given. Lets people know you value their help.
5. Dress appropriately!!-
6. Plan your time.- in 1 hour. You can talk with 6-12
people averaging about 5 to 10 minutes with each person.
7. Ask for introductions.- once youve meet a few people,
ask them to introduce you to people they think would be a good fit for you to meet.
8. Repeat the name plus handshake trick- when you meet
someone ask their name, and when you go to shake their hand repeat it. Signals that you consider them an important contact. say your name proud, clearly and distinctly.
9. Have a convo- make the convo about them. and listen.
10. Stay positive.- focus on the positives of your work.
11.Be genuine- trust is a key element to a mutually
benificial networking relationship. dont misrepresent yourself.
12. Be aware of your body language- encouraging non
verbal cues. a smile a nod.
13. End convos gracefully- after speaking with someone
for awhile a moment of silence maycue that its time to say goodbye. 3 step process is here. Thank yous if applicable, make an excuse for a second meeting, shake hands before walking away, with a nice to meet you added to the end.
14. Take a break- dont overtire yourself.
15. Watch your drink intake(alchol)
16. Thank the hosts. (write a handwritten note later if
applicable)
Post Party 17. Self analysis of the event. 18. Follow up on your new contact 19. Cyber connect. Add on your social media sites. 20. Nurture the relationship. coffee maybe lunch sometime
