For the given system of lenses (A), (B) and (C) calculate the output ray vectors at the paraxial
image plane for the rays with f-numbers of 5, 10 and 20. The diameter of all the lenses is 50
mm. For all the lens systems the object and paraxial image are at a distance of 200 mm.
Assume that all the rays from object plane are emanating from the focal point, use the f-
numbers and calculate the corresponding input qin.

For the lens system (A) the thickness of the bi-convex lens is 10 mm. The radius of curvature
of the lens is 200 mm. The refractive index of glass used for lens is 1.5.

For the lens system (B) each plano-convex lens has a thickness of 5 mm. The radius of
curvature of these lenses is 400 mm respectively. The refractive index of glass used for lens
is 1.5.

For the lens system (C) the achromats are made of convex-concave lens is made of flint glass
(n= 1.655) of 2 mm thickness and a biconvex lens made of crown glass (n= 1.517) of 3 mm
thickness. The radius curvature of convex-concave lens is 400 mm and symmetrical biconvex
lens is (400/3) mm, respectively.

From the calculated output ray vectors can you estimate the spherical aberrations in these
systems?
