Reflection on lesson:
Overall, I thought the lesson went very well. The students were extremely engaged within the lesson
and seemed to gain a sincere understanding of the concepts I was trying to teach. The greatest
strength within the lesson I think was the video. The students enjoyed watching the video and were
actively engaged with it. The video gave the students a chance to see the lesson in real life. Following
the lesson during lunch one of the student came up to me saying, (this child) did not accept my
differences. Proving to me that the lesson achieves a deeper understanding.
One major thing I learned from teaching this lesson was to be flexible. Half way through the lesson a
fire drill took place. The fire drill took about 7 minutes from my already only 35 minute lesson.
Therefore, when it came to the assessment I gauged that they would not have enough time to write
out sentences so I instructed them to draw pictures instead. It changed the way that I was going to
assess and how I ended my lesson. Due to time I was not able to do my intended closure,
nonetheless, it was a learning experience; one that I was glad to experience.
The weakness of the lesson upon reflection I think would be my assessment. If I could change
something in my lesson it would be to make a more engaging assessment. Perhaps, I would do
something where they were in groups or interacting more so. The graphic organizer might have been
too advanced for the students. I would rather that the students were more excited during a subject
such as social studies. Also I would change the powerpoint-- I thought pictures would be a way to
connect ideas and make it visually appealing. However, I think that it was a little too distracting.
