Physiology of Nose
Physiology of Nose
Including :
A. Olfaction (smelling)
B. Respiration (breathing)
C. Filtration of dust
D. Humidification
E. Reception and elimination of secretions from the paranasal sinuses and nasolacrimal ducts
A. OLFACTION
Olfactory area : 1/3 superior rongga hidung
Mechanism of odor differentiation and recognition :
mucus di olfactory epithelium (faster than diffusion)
2. Cilia
Cilia beat in a fixed direction that is determined
by the orientation of the basal feet of the cilia
Terdapat dua-stroke pattern : forward
(bengkok, cepat, pada keadaan inilah mukus
digerakkan) dan backward (kembali ke
keadaan semula, lamban)
D. HUMIDIFICATION
Setelah udara yang kita hirup melewati nasal valve,
udara tersebut kehilangan fast laminar flownya
digantikan dengan slower turbulent flow
Slow turbulent flow udara terhirup berada pada
maksimal kontak dengan nasal mucosa yang lebih
hangat udara terhangatkan menjadi sekitar 34
derajat celcius saat mencapai nasopharynx
Mekanisme humidification sama dengan heating
kelembapan udara saat melewati nasopharynx
mencapai 100%
ekspirasi
Cooling expiratory air primarily takes place in the areas of inferior and middle turbinate
