birth control through Intrauterine Device (IUDs)

Some parents and couples nowadays lack commitment on parenthood and to

their promise during their wedding day the promise to procreate. Because of the strong

influence of medical science in our society today shows the world that almost everything

is possible. Issues and solutions which are catching to the minds of people.

One of the issues is on the issue of birth control methods what our late Pope

Paul VI wrote about in his encyclical letter. He said,

Therefore, we base our words on the first principles of a human and Christian

doctrine of marriage when we are obliged once more to declare that the direct

interruption of the generative process already begun and, above all, all direct

abortion, even for therapeutic reasons, are to be absolutely excluded as lawful

means of regulating the number of children. Equally to be condemned, as the

Magisterium of the Church has affirmed on many occasions, is direct sterilization,

whether of the man or of the woman, whether permanent or temporary. Similarly

excluded is any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual

intercourse, is specifically intended to prevent procreation whether as an end or

as a means.1

After viewing the Church side let us view the medical side for them birth control

specially Intrauterine devices. Birth control is any method used to prevent pregnancy.

Another word for birth control is contraception (say "kon-truh-SEP-shun"). If you have

sex without birth control, there is a chance that you could get pregnant. This is true even

if you have not started having periods yet, or you are getting close to menopause.2 We

have lots of types of birth control. These are: Hormonal methods, Intrauterine devices

(IUDs), Barrier methods, Natural family planning (also called fertility awareness),

Permanent birth control (sterilization), and Emergency contraception. In this paper I will

just focus on one way of birth control which is the IUD or an intrauterine device. What it

is and why it is called as such? Who can use this? And who shouldnt? What are its

disadvantages?

Intrauterine device or IUD is a shaped like a "T" and a bit bigger than a quarter,

an IUD fits inside your uterus. It prevents pregnancy by stopping sperm from reaching

and fertilizing eggs.3 The only one who is allowed are those most healthy women.

Theyre especially suited to women with one partner and at low risk of contracting an

STD. IUDs don't protect against STDs. You shouldnt use one if: a woman has an STD

or had a recent pelvic infection, pregnancy, a woman have cancer of the cervix or

uterus, and a woman have unexplained vaginal bleeding.4

Let us see what the possible disadvantages of this method are. This method can

cause some women to feel pain, cramps or dizziness when the IUD is put in or taken

1%) when an IUD is put in. There is a very small risk of damage to the uterus (about 1

in 1000 people), a copper IUD might give you more bleeding and cramping during your

period, but this usually gets better over time. The copper IUD can cause an allergic

reaction, but this is very rare, the hormonal IUD might give you irregular or light

bleeding. The IUD can sometimes come out by itself (about 5% of all IUDs). You can

check the strings are still in the right place at any time.5

In our family, especially my parents wanted to have more child, but seems God

wouldnt allow it, I pray to God that he will give an addition to our family. Even if it's the

case I still hope that he will grant our wishes. Sometimes I become jealous of my

cousins because they are six of them they are happy. But I realize, I think one or two

additions to our family will do. For me, being the eldest it is a happy but the same time

challenging. It is challenging because new faces and new attitudes that I will be formed

under the umbrella of our family.

Some families do not look having a baby or child as a happy moment, but our

family has a different view because as my mother said, Having a child is the happiest

moment does a mother or father will have, during times of tiredness from work

whenever a parent sees his son or daughter all those tiredness will be gone my

parents' views that way as I heard it I feel very happy. I say to myself even I am

hardheaded my parents still love me and my younger brother.

The most valuable thing for me is our life because life is the most precious gift

given by God which we enjoy. The Pope in his encyclical letter distresses that the

blessing of life of a child or a person is the very perfection and the manifestation of

Gods love. Every time we stop the development of the fetus or avoiding a woman to be

pregnant is an act of disobedience to the will and plan of God. Accepting Gods gift is

challenging because we dont know what will happen.

Life is the very important thing and happiness we can give to a child. To be born

in this temporal world is still important for in here we can differentiate what is life which

temporal and everlasting. So, stop birth control stop intrauterine device. Let babies be

born in this world.
