Emotional Intelligence - Emotional intelligence determines 80% of a persons success (Dan Goleman, Emotional Intelligence) - We can improve emotional intelligence in schools as teachers by encouraging students to talk to us and empathizing with them - Ages 10,11,and 12 can be a calm or stormy period. - Most children move back and forth as they struggle with new feelings,problems,and expectations. - Eager to please or have a bad attitude in the same day - There are 5 Dimensions of Emotional Intelligence:
-Self-Awareness ,Handling Emotions,Motivation,Empathy, and
Social Skills. Social Development

- Develop strong bonds with teachers,coaches,or club
leaders. Peer v. Family Relationships Peer Family -need to feel -Dont want accepted by parents advice others. -Bossy toward -opinions of -parents younger siblings peers are highly need to and annoying valued. be toward older -Fitting in becomes involved. -Overall, important. family -Vulnerable to peer relationships pressure are strained Physical growth -some experience a growth spurt leading up to puberty
