Preparation
Student to not use machine unless instructed by a qualified staff member.
Be familiar with controls including stop button
Remove chuck key, tools and materials from the lathe area before starting the machine.
Adjust all guards / guide prior to use
Turn the machine through one complete revolution by hand before starting machine

Use
Never leave the lathe area while the machine is operating
Only one operator near machine at a time
Keep work area clean at all times
Do not bend down near machine when it is running
Keep hands away from chips or shavings. Clean down lathe with piece of wood, a brush or a
pair of pliers

Adjustment / Maintenance
Machines must be isolated from power sources when being cleaned, adjusted, maintained
or repaired
Regular preventive maintenance, lubrication and cleaning to occur
Note: This Safe work Instruction must be reviewed a) after any accident or incident;
b) when training new staff;
c) if adopted by new work group;
d) if equipment, substances or processes change or
e) within 12 months of date of issue.
