Facts of Military Factory 99 workers' trial


The court refuses to give a long-term for acquaintance
and allows only reading the record without copying it !

Center for Trade Union and Workers Services (CTUWS)- 22 August. 2010- At 4 PM:

The defense for Helwan Engineering Industries Company workers (Military Factory 99)-
who started their first military trial session today, Sunday, August 22nd - confirmed that
the trial session did not take ten minutes, and the court authority refused to give the
defense a long-term for view/ acquaintance, and the trial was adjourned until next
Wednesday. Besides, the court authority also refused to allow the defense to photograph
and copy the military prosecution records, it allowed for the defense to acquaint on/ view them
only..
The eight workers are: Ahmed Taher Hassan, Ayman Taher Hassan, Ahmed Mohammed
Abdel Mohaimen, Mohammed Tarek Sayed, Wael Baioumy Mohammed, Hisham Farouk
Eid, Ali Nabil Ezzat, and Tarek Sayed Mahmoud, they are accused with: disclosure of
military secrets, refraining from work, and assault by beating on a public official (The
Major General. Mohammed Amin, head of the Directors' Board of the Company) ..
The eight workers have been arrested after the sit-in of the factory workers on 3rd
August, 2010 , protesting on the blast of a tube nitrogen (boiler) in the factory, which led
to the death of the worker, "Ahmed Abdel Hadi", and six other workers were injured!!.
The military prosecution ordered to keep them in jail four days on pending investigations
on Saturday, 14th August, then it extended their jail again on last Tuesday.. And suddenly,
they have been turned to the martial court, which seemed to be the first session today in
the case which carried No. 86 of 2010, Western military crimes ..

This is the second time to referral workers to the military trial, where the first time was in
the events of the famous strike of Kafr Al-Dawar workers on 12 August, 1952 , while their
demanding of higher incentives and wages, which led to referral the workers Mohammed
Mustafa Khamis and Mohammed Abdel Rahman Al Baqary to a military trial and then
declaring the execution sentence. .
