an otherworldy race known as the outlanders visited the planet 12,000 years ago and found

it on the brink of collapse, the planet had been invaded by the voidspawn eldritch entities
from the Void, an alternate and almost completely unknown realm, that had crossed into
the material plane and corrupted the native races turning them into the eponymous
voidspawn

among the surviving species holding off the voidspawn, the one with the most
comprehensive understanding of magic and most advanced technology pushed them back
together with the help of the outlanders who presented themselved as saviors upon landing

in the belief of the outlanders, the goal of the voidspawn was to overrun the civilizations on
the world, wipe away all possible resistance and initiate the summoning of a greater entity
from the Void to consume the world

they knew that the Void was divided from the material world by a barrier known as the
Aether, it was from the Aether that latent energies seeped into the world and allowed the
bending of reality the root of magic, and it was reckless use of magic that thinned the
Aether and narrowed the gap between the material and the Void, thus paving way for the
voidspawn to enter the world

the outlanders erected underground installations to monitor the planet in the future and
outfitted them with a mechanism to wipe away life susceptible to corruption across the
whole surface

due to the nature of their plan, the race they had sided with proved a danger to keeping it
secret, thus they turned on their new allies and ignited a brief war that ended in their
triumph, they imprisoned the survivors, wiping the minds and encasing them in armored
suits to act as obedient protectors of the installations

this was not the first nor the last planet the outlanders had visited, and in the installations
they had established, they placed artificial intelligence entities to monitor them and
members of their own species as staff to monitor the artificial intelligence in turn

they furnished the installations with halls of stasis chambers for the staff to sleep away the
ages when they were not needed, and with life support systems for when they were, they
appointed two keepers per installation who oversaw the whole complex and communicated
with each other when necessary

samples of the surviving races were taken and stored within the installations, who were then
activated for the first time, wiping the planet of both voidspawn and intelligent life,
populations were then seeded across the planet to evolve anew on their own
