TO WHOM DO MUSLIMS PRAY?

The Muslims submit themselves to their God or their Creator, Allah. According to
nicheoftruth.org, they call Allah as the Protecting Friend of the Muslims and the Ever-
living. All will be dealt and judged only by Him, same goes with Catholics and other
religions.
According to islamqa.info, Muslims worship Allah, the One True God whom all the
prophets worshipped. They worship Allah and call others who follow different religions to
worship Allah alone. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. All are
obedient to Him.
WHERE DO MUSLIMS PRAY?
Muslims usually pray in holy buildings called mosques. They pray facing toward
Mecca. The largest mosques have an open court surrounded by covered arches, and a
well or fountain in the middle to provide water for washing before prayer. They also have
a tower called a minaret, from which the people are called to prayer five times a day.
The Qibla is the direction that should be faced when a Muslim prays during salah
prayers. It is fixed as the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. Most multifaith prayer rooms
will also contain a Qibla, although usually less standardized in appearance than one
would find within a mosque.
Muslims all praying towards the same point is traditionally considered to symbolize
the unity of the Ummah (meaning community), or all Muslims worldwide, under Sharia
(Law of God).
The Qiblah has importance beyond salaat and plays a part in various ceremonies.
The head of an animal that is slaughtered using halal methods is usually aligned with the
Qiblah. After death, Muslims are usually buried with the body at right angles to the Qibla
and the face turned right towards the direction of the Qiblah.

WHEN AND HOW FREQUENT DO MUSLIMS PRAY?

Muslims are required to offer 5 prayers daily which is called Salat. It is also the
second Pillar of Islam, and repeated by millions of Muslims all around the world whose
purpose is to connect them spiritually.
Salat is divided into 5:
- Salat al-fajr
o dawn, before sunrise
- Salat al-zuhr
o midday, after the sun passes its highest
- Salat al-'asr
o the late part of the afternoon
- Salat al-maghrib
o just after sunset
- Salat al-'isha
o between sunset and midnight
HOW DO MUSLIMS PRAY?
Every day millions of Muslims turn toward Mecca and pray. They are required to
pray five times a day at daybreak, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and evening, although
there are some Muslims who combine prayers. The prayers are said in Arabic, no matter
what the persons native tongue.
Prayer in Islam is ritualized, with some critics saying the ritual takes away from the
spiritual. But Muslims dont see it that way. The five prayers, together with the movements
involved in them, are designed to combine meditation, devotion, moral elevation and
physical exercise. The prayers can be said together at mosque or alone.
The prayer is begun by saying Allahu akbar or God is most great then Muslims
recite the first 7 verses of Chapter 1 of the Quran. Before a prayer can be said, though,
Muslims must go through a ritual cleansing this to ensure they are both physically and
spiritually pure before going before Allah. Prayers like this are repeated five times each
day by Muslims, and only takes about 10 minutes to finish one prayer.
