MARTINI LILISANTOSA. High-resolution ultrasonographyof the carpal tunnel
structures in healthy subjects compare to carpal tunnel syndrome (supervised by Muhammad Ilyas and Nikmatia Latief).
The study aims to compare all sonographic measurements of carpal tunnel
structures in healthy subjects and carpal tunnel syndrome patients. This comparative study using independent t-test was conducted in Radiology Depatment of both Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital and Hasanuddin University Hospital Makassar from March to September 2016. Ultrasonographic evaluation were performed in 65 samples consist of 29 wrists of healthy subjects and 36 wrists of CTS patients with the range of age 22-87 years. The results revealed that the mean CSA of median nerve at the distal forearm (10,24+2,71 vs 6,69+1,47 mm2), carpal tunnel inlet (14,244,25 vs 7,141,40 mm2), mid (13,724,83 vs 7,641,71 mm2), and outlet (13,175,05 vs 7,811,43 mm2), anteroposterior (AP) diameter of the carpal tunnel (11,531,29 vs 0,951,15 mm) and the distance of the transverse carpal ligament from the trapezium-hamate (TmH) line (6,191,05 vs 5,001,13 mm) showed increase value that statistically significant in CTS groups compare to healthy subjects (p<0,05). Whereas, the mean FR at the CT inlet (2,850,64 vs 2,700,47); mid (2,920,55 vs 2,830,44) and outlet (2,970,77 vs 2,750,40) showed no significant difference between CTS groups and healthy subjects (p>0,05).
