Road Traffic Crashes a growing Public Health Epidemic
Socio Economic loss:
3% of global GDP (iRAP) (upto 5% in case of low and
middle income countries) (Nearly Rs.22,200 Cr annually
in Tamil Nadu INR 61 Cr/ day)
Losses: cost to the victims and families (medical cost,
loss of work, productivity, income besides physiological
and psychological suffering), cost to government, cost in
terms of damage to the property
Statistical value of human life: (from iRAP report)
Value of fatality : ~70 x GDP/capita
Value of serious injury : ~17 x GDP/capita
