LA VERNIA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT JOINT STATEMENT OF THE

BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND JOSE MORENO

Dr. Moreno has announced his resignation as Superintendent of Schools for the La Vernia Independent
School District. An Agreement has been reached which allows Dr. Moreno to serve the district in a
different capacity and eventually the ability to pursue other interests and permits the Board to pursue
hiring another Superintendent. The Board and Dr. Moreno have entered into the Agreement believing it
is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the District.

During Dr. Morenos tenure the District has attained many accomplishments and achievements,
including:

Attained Superior Ratings on the FIRST Financial Report (2014-2016)


Decreased Debt By $6.8 Million Through Bond Refunding Practices (2014-2016)
Increased Average Daily Attendance from 95.4% to 96.6% (District) - $100,000 Revenue Increase
Improved Graduation Rate Average to 98% and Above
Attained TEA Met Standard District Performance With Higher Than Region and State Averages
Increased Advanced Placement (AP) Participation by 31%
Increased Number of AP Exams Taken by 75%
Increased AP Students Scoring a 3 or higher by 66%
Improved Participation and Performance on SAT/ACT with Higher Than Region and State Averages
Improved UIL Lone Star Cup Standing From 43rd to 13th Place (2016-2017)
Implemented the first dual-language program in the history of the District.

In light of the foregoing on behalf of the entire District, the Board of Trustees expresses its sincere
appreciation to Dr. Moreno for his efforts and leadership while serving as Superintendent of this great
school district and its wonderful students, parents and administrators.

Dr. Moreno thanks the Board of Trustees for providing him with the opportunity to serve in the La Vernia
Independent School District. A school district is measured by the commitment of the Board, staff and
community to its children and their achievement. This District is indeed so committed. Dr. Moreno
would like to express his heartfelt appreciation to the staff and community for their support of the
Districts programs and services during his term as Superintendent.

Success requires hard work, dedication, leadership and vision. The Board and Dr. Moreno wish to
acknowledge and recognize the teachers, principals, administrators, staff, students, parents and patrons
who have all contributed to the Districts success.

The Board extends its best wishes to Dr. Moreno in his future endeavors. On its part, the Board will soon
begin its search for a new Superintendent, and anticipates that the process will not disrupt the Districts
operations.
