Welcome!
Thiscourseincludesastudyofatomicstructure,theperiodictable,measurementsskills,bonding,
stoichiometry,statesofmatter,solutions,acids,bases,mathematicalrelationshipsofchemicalreactions
andmathematicalformulasofgasbehavior.Thesetopicsareallstudiedusingexperimentaldiscovery,
lecturesandproblemsolvingsituations.Thecoursewillincludemanylaboratoryexperimentsdesigned
toreinforcecoursecontent.

Wearegoingtobeworkingwithinteractivenotebooksthisyear.Thefollowingisalistofsuppliesthat
aregoingtobeneeded.

Textbook:
Students are welcome to check a book from the bookroom to use for reference at home. I am
going to keep a few copies in stock for emergencies only.

DISCIPLINE PLAN- Rules, Consequences and Rewards.


I believe that the teaching / learning process can only reach its highest level when all those involved
work together. In this process, I am referring to the teacher, student, parent, school, and community.
When all these work together for the good of the student, who is in turn working in the interests of
what is best for their school, community, town, state, and world, the optimum level of the teaching /
learning process can be reached.
It is my desire to work with both you and your child to maintain an open line of communication. When
the need arises, or if you would just like to talk with me, feel free to contact me by the schools number,
254-547-2534. If I am not available, you may leave a message and Ill return your call at my earliest
convenience. I am looking forward to working with you in order to form a GREAT year for all of us
and to make a DIFFERENCE in the WORLD AROUND US!!!!!!!
GENERAL GUIDELINES:
1. Treat everyone with respect.
2. Always try; do your best.
3. Ask questions.

BEHAVIOR RULES:
1. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
2. Ask for permission to get out of your seat.
3. Ask for permission before touching or using classroom equipment and materials.

DISCIPLINE PLAN: When a student breaks a rule:

1. 1st Offense ~ Caution - I will ask the student to follow directions and stop the misbehavior.
2. 2nd Offense ~ Warning - I will warn the student one last time.
3. 3rd Offense ~ I will ask the student to call their parents or guardians from the classroom.
4. 4th Offense ~ Lunch detention.
5. Offense ~ Referral and/or student will be send to the AP's office.
BATHROOM AND WATER PASSES:
The first and last 15 minutes of the class period are unavailable to the student for such tasks as water
and bathroom breaks (students with medical needs must have documentation on file with the nurse so
that the nurse may provide me with a copy); use your passing periods to take care of your human needs.
Each student will be given a bathroom or water certificate each six week. This certificate will entitled
each student to three passes. If they do not use their pass they are going to be entitled to 20 points extra
credit to be used on a low score assignment.

BYOD Policy
Electronic Devices are to be used in the classroom only for educational purposes only when the
teacher decides to use them.

POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES I USE WHEN STUDENTS BEHAVE:


1. Praise from the Teacher
2. Reward notes Sent Home to Parents by Schoology.
3. Appointed as Student Helper for the Day when needed.
4. Class Recognition

Grading policy:
6weeksAverages:AspertheCCISDStudentHandbookandCodeofConduct,thegradingpolicyfor
regularcoursesisasfollows:
FormativeGrades:40%
SummativeGrades:60%
Lateworkwillnotbeacceptedafterthethirddayandwilllose10pointsforeverydayitislate
(maximumof30points).

SemesterAverages:
Indeterminingfinalsemestergrades,thesemesteraveragecountsfor80%,andthefinalexamcounts
for20%.

AnyworknotturnedinwillbemarkedwithaZeroanddesignatedasmissinguntilthelatework
periodhasended.SeeboththeRedo/Redeem/RecoverandMakeupWorkBecauseofAbsencePolicies.

Redo/Redeem/RecoverPolicy:

AspertheCCISDStudentHandbookandCodeofConduct:Parents/studentsmustcontacttheteacher
withinten(10)schooldaysfromthetimethegradeispostedinParentPortaland/ortheassignmentis
returnedtothestudent,whicheverislater,toscheduleamutuallyagreeabletimetoredotheassignment
orretakeatest.Shouldafailinggradebeearnedduetosubmittingtheassignmentlate,anopportunity
toredotheassignmentwillnotbeprovided.Allformative(minorgrades)assignmentsmustbe
completedbeforearetakeisattempted.Priortoretakingthetestorbeingallowedtoredoan
assignment,thestudentshallattendaminimumofone(1)tutorialonthetargetedacademicskill.The
newgradewillnotbehigherthana70%.

MakeupWorkBecauseofAbsence:
Theteachermayassignthestudentmakeupworkforanyclassmissedbasedontheinstructional
objectivesforthesubjectorcourseandtheneedsoftheindividualstudent,inmasteringtheessential
knowledgeandskills,orinmeetingsubjectorcourserequirements.
Makeupworkwillbedueatthebeginningofeachclassperiod.
Itistheresponsibilityofthestudenttomakearrangementsforcompletionofanyandall
makeupwork.Studentsareallowed3schooldaystomakeupworkaftertheirreturn
fromanabsence.Ifthestudent'sabsencegoesbeyond5days,thentheteacherand
studentwillmakearrangementsthatareacceptabletoboth.
Studentswhoareabsentonthedayalongtermassignmentorprojectisduemustturnin
theassignmentorprojectthefirsttimethestudentreturnstothatclass.Theadditional
threedaypolicydoesnotapply.

Tutorials:
Unlessotherwisenoted,tutorialswillbeeveryTuesday,WednesdayandThursdayfrom3:58pmto
4:30pmorbyappointment.
Projects:
Therewillbelimitedclasstimeavailabletoworkoncompletingprojects,buteachprojectwillbe
discussedatlengthwhenassigned.Theremaybeintermediatecheckdatesthatmaycountasformative
grades.Thefinalprojectassignmentwillcountasthesummativegrade.Theseassignmentswillnotbe
acceptedlate.
