BYU-Idaho Preschool Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan #21

Lab 4
Exercise and Sports

Date: Monday, June 19, 2017

Supervisor: Alice Anderson
Lead Teacher: Ruth Newcomer

Children and Learning/Development Goals:

1. Ali: Alis goal is to recognize numbers. She will do this by counting the keys in the sensory
table.
2. Aaron: Aarons goal is to learn social skills. He will do this by learning to take turns and
receive help when needed when making the paper airplanes.
3. Savannah: Savannahs goal is to develop social interactions. She will accomplish this as
she plays in the gym dramatic play area and finds the keys in the sensory bin.
4. Catania: Catanias goal is to develop social interactions with adults and she will do this
by working on the paper airplanes with a teacher and asking for help when needed.
5. Teddy: Teddys goal is to develop his fine motor skills as he is in the creative arts using
scissors and cutting the straws.
6. Boston: Bostons goal is to recognize when to use his indoor voice. He will do this by using
his indoor voice in making a paper airplane in the science area and flying it.

Preassessment and Findings:

One day in lab, there was a t-ball and bat out for the children in another lab to play with
outside. Lorien and Teddy were found play and taking turns with this t-ball set and were both
running and picking up the ball for each other and were saying, Home run. It was great to see
this interaction with each other with no assistance from adults. Then, Aaron has made a few
wrecking balls with yard and cotton balls. In lab as well, Kail asked if we would get the t-ball set
out so he could play with it during outside time. I know that Teddy likes to play soccer too from
the Home visit. For exercise, I asked Lily if she could balance on the exercise ball because it
strengthened her core and I pointed to her core. She tried one time and could not do it. A few
minutes later, she did it on her own and could balance on the ball, sitting on it. The children may
not know about bouncy balls or other balls that they have not played with such as racquet balls.
The children know that they can play with balls and know how to play baseball with the t-ball
set. Having the topic on balls will encourage the children to share, build their fine and gross
motor skills and communication when throwing or passing the balls so everyone is safe.

Ideas to be Emphasized:
1. Moving different parts of our bodies requires the parts of our body to work together and
we call it exercise.
2. There are many ways to move our bodies, like: walking, running, jumping, dancing, and
playing.
3. When we exercise it helps our bodies grow strong and healthy.

Preschool Concepts or Skills:

1. Children will share.
2. Children will practice their fine and gross motor skills as they play with balls, run, jump and
walk.
3. Children will learn big and small for the sizes of balls.
