1. What is motivation?
Motivation has been identified as the learners orientation with regard
to the goal of learning a foreign language (crooks&schmidt, 1991).

2. Why is motivation important in learning process?


Motivatio is important in learning process because motivation is one
of a number of variables in an intricate model of interrelated
individual and situational factors which are unique to each language
learners.

3. How many kind of motivation? And mention the characteristic of each


kind of motivation!
- integrative motivation:
- Like the people that speak the language.
- Admire the culture of that language.
- Have a desire to become familiar with the society which the
language is used or even integrate into the society in which the
language is used.
- Instrumental motivation:
- Have a desire to obtain something practical or concrete from the
stdy of the foreign language.

4. How can the teacher motivate learners and suggestions?


Dornyel in Nation (2010) Addresses the question of how teachers can
motivate learners and suggests that motivational teaching practice has
four principle aspects:
- Creating basic motivational condition
- Generating initial student motivation
- Mantaining and promoting motivation, and
- Encouraging positive retrospective self-evaluation

5. Mention the characteristic of the four principals aspect in motivating the


learners! And give example!
Here are the characteristic:
Creating the basic motivational condition:
- Appropriate teachers behaviours
- A pleasant and supportive atmosphere in the classroom
- A cohesive learner group with appropriate group norm
Generating initial student motivation:
- Enchancig the learners L2 related value and attitude
- Increasing the learners expectancy of success
- Making the teaching materials relevant for the learners
- Creating realistic learners beliefs
Maintaining and promoting motivation:
- Making learning stimulating
- Presenting task in motivational way
- Setting specific learner goal
- Protecting the learners self-esteem and increasing their self-
confidence
- Allowing the earners to maintain a positive social image
- Creating learner autonomy
- Promoting self-motivating strategies
- Promoting cooperation among learners
Encouraging positive retrospective self-evaluation:
- Promoting motivational attribution
- Providing motivational feed back
- Increasing lerners satisfaction
- Offering rewards and grade in a motivating manner

Example: in a classroom when the teacher set up small group in which


each member has a clearly defined role (creating motivational
condition). The groups are given a task with a desire outcome, which
the learners can expect to achieve through working together
(genereting initial motivation). This, in turn promote co-operation
among learners and make learning simulating and enjoyable
(mainaining and protecting motivation). The teachers move among the
groups, offering advice and encouragement as the work towards the
goal, and the learners experience, feeling of satisfaction when they
cmplete the task (encouraging positive retrospective self-evlution).
6. What is the key component of integrative motivation?
The key component of integrative motivation is assisting the learner to
develop some level of proficiency in the language.

7. Which kind of motivation usually more highly motivated and more


successful in learn language ?
The motivation that highly motivated and more successful in learn
language is Integrative motivation.

8. Mention the characterstic of creating the basic motivational conditions


and guessing initial motivation!
