CTF Assessment

The assessment aspect of the CTF curriculum encourages a student-focused approach because not
all students learn the same way and at the same pace. Assessment is designed to be student-
specific, individualized and flexible through a staged approach to assessing the learning outcomes.

Each CTF learning outcome can be assessed at any one of three stages. Explanations are provided for each stage
to describe what students will be learning. Stages of assessment provide teachers with the opportunity to
differentiate and personalize learning and assessment to meet student learning needs.

The three stages of assessment and their explanations are as follows:

Acquire Construct meaning and understand the requirements of the task.

Use information and understand relationships to demonstrate and/or

perform a task.
Adapt Assess, integrate and transform knowledge and ideas.

Performance descriptors articulate the extent of a students learning relating to a CTF learning outcome.
Performance descriptors can be used by teachers and students to identify a starting point based on a students
prior knowledge and experiences, a goal for student growth, or an area to assess students.

The CTF assessment tool provides teachers and students with an overview of the stages of assessment,
explanations and performance descriptors associated with each learning outcome (one portion of the CTF
assessment tool is provided below). Teachers may use the assessment tool, make modifications or use their own
assessment tool. This tool can be used for formative or summative assessment, as well as for self-assessment.
