1 (a) Explain the operation of 1- semi converter with DC motor load for discontinuous mode of
operation and also derive the expression for its power factors.
(b) The semi converter with R-L-E load is connected to a 120 V, 60 Hz supply. The load current

D
is assumed to be continuous and its ripple content is negligible. If the delay angle
calculate Vn

2 (a)

(b)

Explain the operation of 3- semi converter with dc motor load for continuous conduction
mode. Also obtain the expressions for average thyristor current and rms thyristor current.
A 3- semi converter with highly inductive load is operated from a 3- , Y-connected 208 V,

O
60 Hz supply and the load resistance is R = 10 . If it is required to obtain an average
output voltage of 50% of the maximum possible output voltage, calculate:

W
(i) The delay angle.
(ii) The rms and average output currents.

U
(iii) The average and rms thyristor currents
(iv) The rectification efficiency.
(v) The TUF.

T
(vi) The input PF.
