Number A number is a mathematical object used

to count, measure, and label. The original examples
are the natural numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and so forth.

Numeral Numeral (linguistics), a class of words denoting

numbers (e.g. thirty-three in English)

Zero the arithmetical symbol 0 or 0 denoting the

absence of all magnitude or quantity
Students Prior Knowledge:

In KG2, students recognized and wrote numerals from 1-20 e.g. 8, 13, 5 etc. In Grade 1, students progress to reading
and writing numbers from 0-100 in numerals e.g. 23, and words e.g. twenty three. This is the first time that students
have written numbers in words.

Possible Problems and Misconceptions:

1- If the some students have struggle saying the number for example, if they say one seven instead of
17 seventeen.

2- Having a problem with computer for example, showing the video about the numbers from 0- 100
without the sound.

3- Having problem in prouncing the numbers such as fifteen and they will say fiveteen.

4- If some students misbehave during the lesson.

Solutions:

1- The teacher will repeat saying the number correctly and let the students repeat after her.

2- The teacher will start count with students the numbers from 0-100 using the 100 board.

3- The teacher teaches them the correct pronunciation.

4- The teacher will remind them about the classroom rules and she will do some strategies that they
know it.

Lesson Schedule
Targeted teacher language:
The numbers from 0-100.

Student language:
The numbers from 0-100.

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:

5 minutes
The student teacher will start the lesson by showing a video about all the numbers from 0 -
100 and it also has the words of the numbers( the students are sitting on their groups) When
the video finish, she will ask some students to say some numbers using small number cards.
In order to assess their pronunciation about the numbers and how they can read it.
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures): 30 minutes

The student teacher will demonstrate the book on the board using data show. She will ask
the students to open page 42 in the math book. Their books will be there already for them
and they will sit in their groups as usual which depends on their level. The student teacher
will write the answers on the board after she discusses it with students. For instance, she will
ask the students on page 42 " How many spiders do you see here?" and they will respond 4
spiders after that, she will ask the students about the number symbol and the written word of
it using number cards (small and big). For example, she will ask the students to identify
which is four and she represent two big cards like four and 9. She will call the student who
will answer to choose what the correct number is. Then she will put it on the board using
magnets and she will ask them to write it in their books. Also, she will do the same for the
written words of the numbers. And she will ask them some questions to get their attention
such as "what do see here?" Or "what is the color of this butterfly?". She will finish answering
the questions with students on pages 42 -45.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 10 minutes

The student teacher will assess each group using some cutted papers which like ice cream between 0- 100
depends on their group. The ice cream papers include on the top of ice cream the written words and the
button part has the number (symbol). They should match the number with the word and make the ice
cream shape. They will work as group in order to assess them about the written numbers in words. For
example, 45 card will be down "Forty five" ice cream shape.

Emerging students (Green Group):

The student teacher will provide to the students cutted ice cream papers that include
numbers (symbols) and written words of numbers (From 0-10). She will model how to make
the number and written words of it using the ice cream cutted papers.

Developing students(Yellow Group):

She will give them cutted papers represented ice creams that include written words for the
numbers (from 0-20). She will show to them how to make an ice cream that has the number
and the written word for that number.

Master students(Blue Group):

She will give them cutted papers represented ice creams that include written words for the
numbers (from 0-100). She will ask them how to make an ice cream that has the number
and the written word for that number. For example, she will show them 40 (symbol) then she
will ask what is this number? And they will answer it is forty and she will ask them to find the
word forty and make the ice cream shape.

At the end she will ask them to do their homework which is on page 13 in Homework Book.
