INTRODUCTION
Current design of pile foundations are based on
soil properties taken from conventional sites
investigation that are known to cause
disturbances resulting in the underestimate of
soil strength properties.

Using underestimate soil strength properties in

design of pile foundation will inevitably cause
conservative pile design that will lead to higher
cost of foundation structures.

o To compare the back calculation results to be obtained from the
SASW method to the instrumented pile load test (IPLT) results.

METHODOLOGY
Different seismic impact sources (geology, rubber, steel, sledge
hammer and rolling excavator) were used to generate seismic
energy.

o This study has only obtained a small difference of about -1% in the
total ultimate pile bearing capacity.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION

o In general, the SASW test has shown that Vs and D are strongly
related to ultimate pile bearing capacity based on the back
calculation result obtained in this study.
o Since the base resistance of bored pile are normally small and is
usually ignored in design, the large percentage difference obtained
in the back calculation of end bearing resistance in this study is
irrelevant.
o This study has shown the potential used of shear wave velocity
and damping measurement in the evaluation of pile bearing
