INTRODUCTION
The Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS), started in
1948, has been the nodal body for the promotion of
geotechnical activities in the country and has
continuously worked hard for the past 69 years and
will be celebrating 70 years of dedicated service
soon. The IGS now has global affiliations with the
Japanese Geotechnical Society, Korean Geotechnical
Society, Geo Institute, etc. Some of the distinguished
members are in the board of ISSMGE committees
and the IGS is well represented nationally by its 35
chapters and globally through participation and
presence in various geotechnical committees and
bodies.
IGS MUMBAI CHAPTER
The Mumbai Chapter of Indian Geotechnical Society
was established in 1976, and the Chapter enables
professionals in Mumbai area to keep abreast of
latest technologies by arranging Technical lectures,
Seminars, Workshops and Site visits. The society has
eminent Geotechnical Engineers as members and
has grown to a strength of around 250 members.
The Chapter has had the honour of hosting the
Indian Geotechnical Conferences since 1970,
including IGC-2000and IGC-2010 which earned it the
Best Chapter Award.
THEME
There have been significant developments, both in
theory and practice in geotechnical engineering and
the synergy between academicians and professionals
has led to major contributions to the infrastructure
world over. The IGS with its network and worldwide
reach is a perfect platform for professionals and
industry to have a national and global reach.
