1. Memahami makna dalam essay pendek sederhana berbentuk Narrative Text
untuk berinteraksi dengan lingkungan sekitar.
Menulis
2.Mengungkapkan makna dalam teks monolog/esei tulis berbentuk narrative,
secara akurat, lancar dan berterima dalamkonteks kehidupan sehari-hari dan
mengakses ilmu pengetahuan.

B. Kompetensi Dasar
1.1. Membaca nyaring bermakna teks essay pendek sederhana berbentuk
Narrative Text dengan ucapan, tekanan, dan intonasi yang berterima yang berkaitan
dengan lingkungan sekitar.
2.1. Mengungkapkan makna dalam teks monolog/esei yang
menggunakan ragam bahasa tulis secara akurat, lancar dan berterima dalam teks
berbentuk narrative

D. Tujuan Pembelajaran
Setelah proses pembelajaran, peserta didik diharapkan dapat :

Mengungkapkan makna dalam teks narrative dan mampu menggunakan simple


past tense dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
Merespon makna dan arti dari text narrative secara accurately, fluently and
acceptable.
Merespon arti dan rhetorical steps didalam narrative text.
Mengerti dan menemukan kosakata baru.
Menulis teks berbentuk monolog/esei berbentuk narrative.

E. Materi Pokok
1. Teks sederhana berbentuk Narrative Text.

THE BLACK CAT


I dont expect you to believe the story I am about to write. But in order to die
peacefully, I must tell my story.My wife and I loved pets. One of my wifes favorite
pets was Pluto, the cat. Pluto was a very clever black cat.One day I came home very
drunk. I was in a very bad temper. For some reasons, Pluto made me angry. In a rage
Iseized the cat, took a small knife out of my pocket and cut its throat and took one of
its eyes out ! Then I hanged the poor creature until it was dead.
The next morning, I wake up and remembered what I had done and I felt sorry
very much. I buried my memory in thedrink.One night my house was burning. There
was nothing left, but a strange thing happened. I found out in my bedroomwall the
shape of a huge cat with one eye and a rope around its neck. I was terrified and could
not forget such a horriblesight.
I regretted and felt sorry for Pluto so I bought another cat to take Plutos place.
This cat had a white patch on its chest.I soon began to dislike the cat because it often
stared at me with a strange and hatred look. It terrified me very much.One day my
wife and I went to the cellar. I was getting drunk at that time. The cat followed us. It
got between my feetand nearly made me trip down the stairs. I was carrying an axe in
my hand. I was so angry that I raised my axe wanting tokill the poor animal when my
wife prevented me from doing so. My rage soon directed the axe at her. She fell dead
at myfeet.Then I dug a grave to hide her body inside the cellar wall. I looked for the
cat because I decided to kill it too, but Icouldnt find it anywhere.The fourth day after
the death of my wife, the police came to my house because of my neighbours
suspicion. The police searched the house and found nothing. I was so glad that I said,
Gentlemen, this is a well-built house. Look atthis wall. I lifted a stick and beat the
wall in which I had buried my wife.

2. Pengertian teks narrative.


Narrative Text is a text focusing specific participants, and social function is to
tell stories or past events and entertain the readers. Narrative is a text which retells the
story or previous experiences.

3. Tujuan teks narrative.


The purpose of the text is to entertain or amuse readers or listeners about the
story.

4. Jenis-jenis teks narrative.


There are many kinds of Narrative Text:
Legend
Ex: Malin Kundang, The legend of Tangkuban Perahu, and The story of Toba
Lake.
Fable
Ex: The smartest Parrot and The story of Monkey and Crocodile.
Fairy Tale
Ex: Cinderella, Snow White, The story of Rapunzel and Painting the Wall.

5. Generic structure dalam teks narrative.


A Narrative text will consists of the following structure:
1. Orientation : introducing the participants and informing the time and
places.
2. Complication : describing the rising crises which the participants have
to do with.
3. Resolution : showing the way of participant to solve the crises, better or
worse. Or solution to the problems.

6. Language features dalam teks narrative.


1. Description of character and Places by using:
- Adjective to describe Noun, Ex: Happy
- Similes to compare one thing with another, by using Like or as . . . . .
as.
2. Time Words
- Once upon a time
- Long time ago
- Then
- Last week
- A long long time ago
3. Verbs: indicating action in the story. By using Simple Past Tense.

Ex: - She went to the shop and bought a can of paint.
- She got an idea.

Read the text below about the Painting the Wall

Painting the Wall

One morning, one of the Witchs friends came over to visit. When she looked around
the room, she said your house is ugly. My house is more beautiful than yours, and the walls
are brighter. The Witch was very angry when she heard this and she shouted, Get out of my
house! And dont ever come back here! .
After her friend left, the Witch looked around her house and she said to herself, My
friend was right. My house looks ugly and the paint is faded. I have to repaint it. Then, she
went to the shop and bought a can of paint. After lunch, she started to paint, and she worked
very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part her house. When she wanted to
start painting the upper part she found out that she couldnt reach it. Then she got an idea, I
will use my magic broom! she shouted, Broom, oh my broom, turn into a paint brush and
paint my walls.
Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and it started to paint the upper walls. It
worked very fast, and in ten minutes all the job was done. The Witch was very happy.
