ABSTRACT
Recently, due to digitization in every field, data processing speeds have increased
dramatically, with computers being advanced to the levels where they can assist humans in
complex tasks. Yet, input technologies seem to cause a major bottleneck in performing some of
the tasks by under-utilizing the available resources and usage restriction as a result of cost
constraint. Compared to the optical mouse which offers a limited range of length of connecting
cable and also they require a surface to work on, the wireless in not of much use other than allowing
for a desktop with fewer wires attached. HUMAN COMPUTING INTERACTION (HCI) is one
of the important area of research were people try to improve the computer technology. Gesture is
a very natural human communication capability.
Human computer interaction (HCI) also referred as Man-Machine Interaction (MMI) refers
to the relation between the human operator and the computer or rather specifically the machine.
Since the role of human operator is very significant in operating the machine, it is important that
the two main characteristics should be considered when designing a HCI system i.e., the
functionality and usability. Here system functionality refers to the set of functions or services that
the system equips to the users, while system usability refers to the level and scope that the system
can operate and perform specific user purposes efficiently. Any system that achieves a suitable
balance between these concepts can be considered as influential performance and powerful system
The project presents a novel method to control computer mouse cursor movement with
hand movement. Using this system, persons with disabilities, handicapped people who can no
longer use their hands and even patients who are paralyzed from shoulder downwards, can use
computer for Internet browsing, communication, environmental control, source of information and
entertainment. Simple head movements dont require too much energy, and neither does eye
blinking. Therefore users wont get tired from using this device, and in contrast, theyll get exercise
on the neck, which tends to be the problem for most regular computer users.
EXISTING SYSTEM
All the disadvantages of the existing system can be overcome with the proposed system. The
project presents a novel method to control computer mouse cursor movement with hand movement.
Using this system, persons with disabilities, handicapped people who can no longer use their hands
and even patients who are paralyzed from shoulder downwards, can use computer for Internet
browsing, communication, environmental control, source of information and entertainment.
Simple head movements dont require too much energy, and neither does eye blinking. Therefore
users wont get tired from using this device, and in contrast, theyll get exercise on the neck, which
tends to be the problem for most regular computer users.
The system uses flex sensors to detect the user's hand bending in order to direct mouse
movement on the monitor. The clicking of the mouse is activated by the user's hand. Bluetooth is
used to transmit the motion data to the base unit. It is based on a radio link that provides fast and
reliable transmission of both voice and data. It can carry up to three high-quality voice channels
simultaneously at speeds to 1 Megabit/sec, even in noisy environments. It allows users to connect
to a wide range of devices at one time without cables, and potentially without actively initiating
the connection. The base unit receives the signals from Bluetooth. The controller determines the
necessary actions and establishes connection with PC using RS232 communication.
Here this come under advanced methodology in the aspect that it make use of special
sensory unit call flex sensors to assist user to simply control the devices inside the room such as
fanlight control etc. and to turn the power on and off the personal computer and any other devices
which user need to control.
