This Week In Music...

What’s Going On... August 27th, 2010
Eminem is spending yet another week at the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart, making this his seventh week at No. 1. This gives
his album “Recovery” the most weeks at No. 1 for a male artist’s album since 2004 when Usher’s “Confessions” took the No. 1
spot for nine weeks.

Apple will be holding a music themed event in San Francisco Wednesday which has started rumors that the company will either be
unveiling new iPods or a new music streaming service. Apple emailed invitations containing a photo of a guitar along with the
date, time and location of the event, but failed to reveal any specifics about what the event would feature. In 2008 and 2009 Apple
unveiled new iPods at events around the same time of the year as the one next week. Apple is also rumored to be preparing a music
streaming service that does not require users to download the songs first; Apple has not confirmed this plan, but it acquired a
company with that type of technology last year.

Rapper Kanye West, via Twitter, has promised to release a new song every week this year as a part of a series called “G.O.O.D.
Friday.” West tweeted, “I know yall need music so I’m dropping 1 new song every weekend until Xmas. It may be my song, it may
be a new Jay song, etc.” Last week West shared the remix of his current single “Power” featuring Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz, which
samples the song “The Power” by Snap!

A new exhibit dedicated to the years Jimi Hendrix lived in London will be open to the public next month to mark the 40th
anniversary of Hendrix’s death. The Handel House Museum in London, which is the home of composer George Frideric Handel,
owns Hendrix’s former place and will be holding the exhibition of the home in which Hendrix lived during the late 1960’s.
Hendrix died in London on September 18, 1970.

Trans World Entertainment continues to struggle; they posted a net loss of $15.8 million on $135.8 million in sales for their second
quarter that ended July 31. The drop in sales is largely due to store closures; the chain ended its current period with 163 less stores
than the year before. On August 15 Trans World revamped its pricing strategy and saw increases in their sales; CEO Bob Higgins
said, “With our strategies we are implementing during the third quarter, the comp trend in music should continue to improve.”
Trans World Entertainment is a chain of entertainment media retail stores, currently operating over 500 freestanding and shopping
mall based stored under various brand names.

Sources at Live Nation have confirmed that U2 will be heading to Australia and New Zealand with Jay-Z as a part of their recently
resumed 360 Tour. The tour kicks off at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium on November 25 and wraps up at Perths Subiaco Oval.
Jay-Z was recently named as hip-hop’s top earner for 2009-2010 by Forbes Magazine, bringing in $63 million for the period, and
U2 was named top earning tour band after its world tour in 2009 earned $300 million.
