If one were to surf the internet lately, banners and campaigns running under the No Dam movement
have taken over. Lots of controversial opinions have hovered over the Qaysamani dam, all to which trace
back to the major question: Should the dam be built? The Qaysamani dam, located in the Mghite region
Hammana, was initially built for the main purpose of storing 1 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) of rain and
snow water. Whether the dam will eventually fulfill its potential without incurring any negative
consequences upon the inhabitants and the environment surrounding the dam, is a question raised by
many. Studies were conducted by the Ministry of Water and Environment, the American University of
Beirut and the Municipality of Hammana, each of which concluded contradicting opinions over the validity
