First of all I am thankful to My Almighty Allah who is most merciful and


who helped me to achieve this goal. I would like to acknowledge all those
who have directly or indirectly helped me towards completion of this
research project.
My special thanks to honorable Madam Zarina Habib Principal Jamshoro
College of Nursing Jamshoro, I am also thankful to Mr. Shiraz Shaikh,
faculty nursing research, and Mr. Sakhawat Hussain Rind Baloch class
coordinator for their support. I am deeply indebted to Mr. Sardar Ali Sohu
(Nursing Instructor) my Preceptor in Sir C. J Institute of psychiatry who
facilitated and supported me in research project.
For his continuous support, guidance, and encouragement, I would like to
express my sincere appreciation to Dr. Jamil Ahmad Qazi for his
professional approach and learning style. His continuous guidance extended
to me in each aspect of research activities and formalization of the project.
This research project would not have been written if I did not get his
support, help and encouragement that he provided me till the completion of
the research project. He always provided me a constructive feedback. He has
been a constant source of encouragement facilitation me in pursuing this
research opportunity.
I acknowledge my parents who suffered due to this extensive work during

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate that the self directed learning is more effective


than lecture method of learning at school of nursing sir C J institute of
psychiatry Hyderabad.
Methods: Using a quantitative comparative study design. A total of 40
second year nursing students participated: 20 students in self directed
learning method and 20 students in lecture method of learning of general
nursing diploma Programme. Data was collected through class test.
Results: Results identified a significant difference between the self directed
learning and lecture method of learning. Specific factors which were found
significant included entry qualification, previous academic performance,
type of school, time lapse, uncompleted of course, relationship among
colleagues and class test.
Conclusion: The study concluded that the self directed learning is more
effective than the lecture method of learning second year general nursing
diploma Programme.
