NJ.com has reported that a man shot in a restaurant parking lot in Linden yesterday. Police were

called to the T.G.I. Fridays on South Park Avenue around 11:15 p.m.The 44 year old man from

Irvington sustained serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Newark. Police Chief

Jonathan Parham said in a statement that "violence and fear will never be tolerated in our

community." "We will continue to work tirelessly to protect those who live, work and visit

Linden." If anyone has any information about the incident please contact Detective Juan Velarde

of the Linden Police Department at 908-474-8537.

New York Jets All-Pro defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson returned to Linden high school

to have his Jersey retired. He is the first player in Lindens history to receive this honor for not

only being a stand out player on the field but also for his work in the community. After the game

between Linden and Union high school were the Tigers fell 22-19 Wilkerson;s number 91 will

never be worn again.

Big Tobacco companies have been court ordered by the federal courts to tell the truth about the

dangers of smoking. The new ad campaign was on major television networks and newspapers

over the weekend. This is the first time tobacco companies are highlighting the problem with

smoking themselves rather than the American Cancer Society. According to the Centers for

Disease Control and Prevention, cigarettes kill 480,000 Americans a year, and tobacco use costs

$170 billion in direct medical costs and $156 billion in lost productivity. NJ.com has the full list

of statements the ads will contain highlighting the truths about smoking.

According to NBC news a former therapist at well known massage franchise Massage Envy

pleaded guilty last year to three counts of aggravated indecent assault and six counts of indecent

assault against nine women. James Deiter who is in now in his 60s was arrested and sentenced

in May 2016 for the incidents. Susan Ingram was the victim to report to police after Massage

Envy manger at the location did not take her seriously. BuzzFeed also reports that Massage

Envy, and its franchisees had mishandled or ignored many of more than 180 cases. Deiter is only

one of many cases involving the franchise.

In international news
Tens of thousands of travelers are now stranded in Indonesia because authorities have ordered a

mass evacuation of people on Monday from a danger zone around an erupting volcano on Bali

which closed the international airport. The danger zone has expanded 6 miles in some areas. The

National Disaster Mitigation Agency was responsible for raising the volcano alert to its highest

levels on Monday. Clouds have been spewing out of Mount Agung at about 9,800 feet into the

atmosphere and its explosions can be heard about 7.5 miles away.

Palace officials have announced that Prince Harry will marry actress Meghan Markle this spring.

Prince Harry is the fifth in line to the British Throne and will get married after months of

speculation about the couple. The 36 year old Markle known for her recent role in the tv drama

show Suits, will become a senior member of the royal family as the wife of the popular and

well known Prince Harry. She is also humanitarian campaigner and lifestyle blogger.

According to ESPN The NY Giants Pro bowl cornerback Janoris Jenkins may miss next

Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders. He suffered an ankle injury on Thursdays

Thanksgiving game against the Washington Redskins. The Giants fell to Washington 20-10. The

Giants think this will cause Jenkins to miss multiple games as Jenkins left the stadium in a

walking boot on Thursday.

Also in sports

Auburn upset another number one ranked school, Alabama. The Tigers will play for the SEC

title after winning the 2017 Iron bowl against Alabama. They have clinched the SEC West

serving Alabama their first loss of the season.

E online is reporting that the hit show Walking Dead will sending one of its stars to the spinoff

series Fear the Walking Dead. Lennie James who plays the character of Morgan in The Walking

Dead Series was surprised to be joining the prequel series. On the talk show Talking Dead
James told host Chris Hardwick of the News. In October the crossover was teased by Robert

Kirkman at New York Comic-Con.
