Dear Search Committee,

I am interested in pursuing the Academic Advising position at Future University. I am a student-oriented

individual with excellent communication, listening, and organization skills while also having the desire to help
others. I have a passion for education. My experiences as a 7 through 12 educator, in addition to my experiences
from my M.Ed. in Higher Education enables me to be an asset to Future University.

I am currently a teacher of mathematics, and I have taught 5th through 12th grade students. My strengths in
teaching include building relationships with my students, coworkers, and parents; being well organized and
planned with lessons; and collaborating with others around me. These strengths apply directly to the career as
an Academic Advisor. I enjoy working with students in helping, guiding, and supporting them as they
transitioned either from middle school to high school or high school to college. I strived to support and build
rapport with my students. This strength of building a relationship with students will help me in building a
relationship with the students I advise. In addition, I feel comfortable teaching, which would aid me in being
responsible to teach a first-year seminar course.

As a teacher and a coach, I have to remain very organized and track academic progress for my students. In
addition, I have to work with students, parents, other faculty, and administrators as I track this academic
information. My organizational skills would allow me to transition from a classroom teacher into an academic
advisor where I must also be in contact with faculty, administrators, students, and possibly parents. During my
Masters degree, I interned as an academic advisor within the College of Education, where I worked with
advisors to learn how to track students grades and ensure they are following University policies. This
organizational aspect will benefit me as an academic advisor as a direct transfer from my experience within the
classroom.

Although I enjoy my career in secondary education, I want to advance my career and help those in higher
education. My M.Ed. in Higher Education has given me the skills to transition from secondary education into
higher education. I see many parallels in teaching and coaching that would allow me to truly help students grow
and reach their goals through advising. In addition, I believe through advising and discussing options,
individuals can learn to persevere in difficult situations they will experience in other aspects of their life.

I would enjoy the opportunity to discuss my application in person, given the chance to have an interview. I
believe that my educational background, experience, and skills can allow me to help students learn and grow
from outside the classroom as an advisor to benefit Future University. My rsum lists my additional
experiences and activities. I am happy to provide references for your review. Please feel free to contact me if
you have any questions or need for more information. I thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for
your consideration in the matter.

Sincerely,

Katelyn E. Cline
