Describe how you would incorporate an Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity in your
classroom:
Students will learn about the causes, major events, and consequences of the Civil War. After that,
students will conduct a research paper on someone signfificant from the Civil War time era. They will choose
between: Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas Stonewall Jackson.
In this paper they will discuss the roles that their person did in the Civil War and how they were affected by it.
After students have successfully created their research paper, they will upload it to KidPub.com. Once
on KidPub, the class will all read each classmates paper that they each wrote. The class will write three facts
about each significant historian that they learned from reading the papers.

What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom?
Students would need access to a computer, laptop, or tablet to access the website and type their story.

Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be
addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level).
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their
school: Students will share their papers on KidPub with peers, and students outside the classroom.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original data and or producing original
products as a result of engaging in a project): Students will be researching data and producing a
research project.

Lesson idea implementation and Internet Safety Policies: How could you implement this proposed learning
experience and still comply with your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?

Students must be monitored closely to make sure they follow directions on how to submit their project safely
onto KidPub.com. They will need forms from parents making sure that it is okay that they publish their work
even though they will have to create their setup for them.
