The hydraulic system controls the operation of the bulldozer and ripper.

The hydraulic system can be different for each machine depending on any optional equipment.

The hydraulic system is a fixed displacement closed center design that permits minimum pressure in the system when
the implement control valves are not activated.

The flow for bulldozer and ripper operation is provided by a two-section fixed displacement gear pump. The pump
has a large section and a small section. The oil cooling for the hydraulic circuits is provided by the fan circuit.

The oil from the small pump section flows to the tilt circuit in the bulldozer control valve.

Oil flow from the large pump section is available to both the bulldozer lift and ripper circuits.

The tilt circuit receives oil from the small pump section of the pump. When the tilt circuit is not active, the oil joins the
large pump section oil flow to the lift circuit. If neither circuit is active, the dump valve opens and sends oil flow to
the tank. Both the tilt and lift circuits have load check valves and relief valves. The lift circuit has makeup valves for
both the rod and head ends of the lift cylinders.

The spring for the dump valve plus the pressure of the oil in the tank have a combined force that provides a
restriction to flow. When the pressure in the center chamber increases above the spring force plus the tank oil
pressure, the dump valve will open and permit the combined flow from the two sections of the pump to return to the
tank. With both spools in the HOLD position, the dump valve provides a constant low system pressure which is
available for instant implement response or for "feathering" action of the controls when activated by the operator.

(14) Bulldozer control valve

The implement system is operated by pilot oil. E/H pilot valves (13) contain four or eight proportional solenoids if
the machine is equipped with a ripper. The proportional solenoids control the amount of pilot oil that is directed to
the bulldozer control valve (14). The engine cooling fan pump is used as the implement hydraulic pilot flow and
pressure source. During rapid engine decelerations, the fan pump discharge pressure can drop below the desired
pilot pressure. A hydraulic accumulator is used in the circuit to prevent pilot pressure from dropping below the
desired pressure. The hydraulic accumulator is located on the inside of the right cab/platform fender below the
hydraulic pump pressure test ports.

The accumulator circuit contains a check valve that prevents the reverse flow of oil from the accumulator back to the
fan pump. This check valve and the leakage rate of the hydraulic pilot system trap pressure in the accumulator and
the pilot hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Care should be taken to prevent the accidental release
of the accumulators stored energy. Refer to the Hydraulic System Operations, Test and Adjust, "Hydraulic
Accumulator Discharge Procedure" for the correct method of releasing the hydraulic pressure.

Pin puller control switch (26) controls the operation of the pin puller cylinder on machines with a single shank ripper.
